It would be great have widget support in AnyType for both android and iOS devices. Having a widget makes it easier to quickly add a page to capture an idea or to quickly open a favorite page
Describe the solution you’d like
A basic widget which lists the favorited pages in the homescreen along with an option to create a new page.
But Anytype can go the extra mile and do something much more with widgets What notion or any other app lacks is the type qualification for pages which makes them only possibly to list pages in the widgets. But since Anytype knows what type each page is of, we can create specific widgets for special types such as Tasks which lists the tasks as a widget, something like this:
One more argument for the importance of widgets is the time it takes to load Anytype.
I figure loading time will decrease with further development, but since it’s not a single-purpose app, we shouldn’t expect it to ever be snappy enough for quickly capturing stuff.
Beeing able to have Shortcuts on the Homescreen to Pages would be a helpfull beginning towards full widgets for me. (Just saw a Thread about it: Home screen shortcuts on Mobile)
Yup, that’s why i created that request, it would be easier (hence faster) to implement, though with a more limited approach… But I think it would be really useful.
I would like widgets a lot.
My main use case would be adding an object with one click, with the object type being configurable per widget.
I would then use one widget to just take notes and another to add a task. Would be even cooler if a template could be configured there. Then a simple click would open a new task with my wanted status. So when I open it on Desktop I see all my tasks.
(Of course that would need the ability to sync that object instantly)
Another type of Widget that would be great would be ones that surface information.
For example, one of my Objects could be a shopping list, which is always visible in my home screen.
Tapping it would open it for editing in AT.
Ideally this widget should be as minimalist/simple as possible, or at least give us customization options. So many widgets are unusable due to being so bloated and ugly, like Google’s own Calendar and Keep widgets.
A great example of a clean and functional widget is Simple Sticky Note (Android), in the sense that it has no obtrusive UI, allows easy scrolling and can be resized to be as tiny/big as needed (though this one does lack some basic formatting/color customizations).
My original comment was regarding just surfacing information.
Of course to be able to edit it in widget would be great. But I’m not sure if this would be possible without having the entire app needing to be opened,. which would be a huge strain on resources.
the more I try and integrate Anytype in my daily routine, the more I realise there is still friction in getting information into it. Fully support having the ability to add and customise the widgets on the mobile device (I’m on Android).
For example, on my home screen I can have a widget that adds a new object (and I set that to a ‘task’ template). And with one button it creates a new task, I can enter basic information based on a pre-populated task template so that I can refine it later.
Another example could be to just jot down a random thought/idea/anything. So again, a really simple object template (eg, ‘random thought’), and then just click the widget button on home screen and start typing.
The quicker I access the object, the quicker I jot down the thought, the better the overall experience - and not to mentioned not having to have the extra drain on your brain not trying to forget every little bit of information.
