Widgets for Mobile Devices

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.

It would be great have widget support in AnyType for both android and iOS devices. Having a widget makes it easier to quickly add a page to capture an idea or to quickly open a favorite page

Describe the solution you’d like

A basic widget which lists the favorited pages in the homescreen along with an option to create a new page.

Something like this from Notion:

https://mobile.twitter.com/NotionHQ/status/1374392346461147141

But Anytype can go the extra mile and do something much more with widgets  What notion or any other app lacks is the type qualification for pages which makes them only possibly to list pages in the widgets. But since Anytype knows what type each page is of, we can create specific widgets for special types such as Tasks which lists the tasks as a widget, something like this:

Of course the widget should be limited to the standard Anytype type Task since we cannot know if a users type is a task or not.

I guess it should also be possible to provide a calender widget which lists one of the calender from all the available calender views too

widgets for tasks and calender as you show certainly are one of the main boosters for me to have anytype integrated more into life.

One more argument for the importance of widgets is the time it takes to load Anytype.

I figure loading time will decrease with further development, but since it’s not a single-purpose app, we shouldn’t expect it to ever be snappy enough for quickly capturing stuff.

Beeing able to have Shortcuts on the Homescreen to Pages would be a helpfull beginning towards full widgets for me. (Just saw a Thread about it: Home screen shortcuts on Mobile)

Yup, that’s why i created that request, it would be easier (hence faster) to implement, though with a more limited approach… But I think it would be really useful.

I would like widgets a lot.
My main use case would be adding an object with one click, with the object type being configurable per widget.

I would then use one widget to just take notes and another to add a task. Would be even cooler if a template could be configured there. Then a simple click would open a new task with my wanted status. So when I open it on Desktop I see all my tasks.
(Of course that would need the ability to sync that object instantly)

Well, that would be possible if we can select the set/view for a widget. Then we can have any custom type/set shown.

And yes, widgets are very powerful and a reason I went back to Evernote for it’s quick capture widgets.

Another type of Widget that would be great would be ones that surface information.

For example, one of my Objects could be a shopping list, which is always visible in my home screen.

Tapping it would open it for editing in AT.

Ideally this widget should be as minimalist/simple as possible, or at least give us customization options. So many widgets are unusable due to being so bloated and ugly, like Google’s own Calendar and Keep widgets.

A great example of a clean and functional widget is Simple Sticky Note (Android), in the sense that it has no obtrusive UI, allows easy scrolling and can be resized to be as tiny/big as needed (though this one does lack some basic formatting/color customizations).

So basically an In-Widget Set showing a list of Objects based in type and filters?

Or one Object with checkbox Blocks?

Any Object.

It can contain just some paragraphs of text, check boxes, an inline Set, or any combination of those.

Interesting!

The Todoist android widget is mission critical for my life and I’m not kidding lol

I use it at least a dozen times a day quickly offloading thoughts, ideas, things I need to do, etc. into my inbox to sort later.

I would absolutely need this feature if I were to replace Todoist (which I want to).

My original comment was regarding just surfacing information.

Of course to be able to edit it in widget would be great. But I’m not sure if this would be possible without having the entire app needing to be opened,. which would be a huge strain on resources.

I think it will be very nice to put the widgets home page in anytype as a home screen widget ;

the more I try and integrate Anytype in my daily routine, the more I realise there is still friction in getting information into it. Fully support having the ability to add and customise the widgets on the mobile device (I’m on Android).

For example, on my home screen I can have a widget that adds a new object (and I set that to a ‘task’ template). And with one button it creates a new task, I can enter basic information based on a pre-populated task template so that I can refine it later.

Another example could be to just jot down a random thought/idea/anything. So again, a really simple object template (eg, ‘random thought’), and then just click the widget button on home screen and start typing.

The quicker I access the object, the quicker I jot down the thought, the better the overall experience - and not to mentioned not having to have the extra drain on your brain not trying to forget every little bit of information.

See my very recent post here in how to have a separate icon on your home screen to take a quick note:

good find Sam!

(replied to the post - ideally would then be able to customise the widget for object type - ie, add new… task, code, book etc)

We are cooking really big update on ease of capturing ideas on the go at the moment. We will share the updates soon

this is awesome!!

so looking forward to it!
