Welcome to the community @a2fingerSalute.
While fellow community members do have lots of debates over relations e.g. understanding relation…
As a heavy relation user, I wouldn’t say it was wrong to create and use relation. What you feel might just be showing the discrepancy between the potentials of relations and the current functionality of relations and graph in Anytype. There are a lot of existing feature requests or discussions which should empower relations, like your expectations. For example,
- Connection points e.g. two authors and field being different connection points on the concept object to illustrate the hierarchy or contributions, or even the debates between the 2 authors on the same concept
- Build title from relation to create objects with multiple relations or as co-relations, or contexts of objects e.g. Object name = Concept, Field, Author
- Quantifier with scalar or vector (as perhaps connection force in graph) would be make graph more functional, like Whiteboard/Canvas.
- Some sort of indicator for nature of relations e.g. missing relation
- Multi-dimensional relation to empower the complexity of relations e.g. connection logic
- Assigning coordinates or direction of relations in graph,
- Retrieving different data fields of object(s) with its key via better implementation of relational data model e.g. With publication key storing concept key and author key, we can pull information about all three types of data fields but concept would not be permanently stuck with the author (as a property), so other academics could also comment on the concept
- Filter for graphs e.g. for eradicating noises which prevent observation in graph
In the meantime, try the following:
- Creating pseudo hierarchy to help establish the relations between field and concepts
- Try different methods of connecting nodes on graph e.g. Graph inspirations, different people’s constellation on graph for different purposes
Side note: as you mentioned using graph for politics, you might find this interesting - Mark Lombardi’s narrative structure (shared by Anytype team in May 2023 community update). This should show how Anytype team also contemplates how to better graph functionality.
P.S. Hopefully with all above information, you wouldn’t be overwhelmed.
I hope all of us can have fun in taking notes. ![]()
