Hey Android Community!
This release focuses on improving and polishing the overall Vault experience, getting it ready for what’s coming next. We’ve redesigned it with smoother navigation, cleaner layouts and added a new tool: Space search.
Vault
We’ve refreshed the Vault with an updated UI and made it more practical across the board:
Image name toggles: You can now choose to show or hide image names on Gallery cards via the View Settings.
Default Sorting: Views without a defined sort rule now automatically sort by object Creation Date.
Media
In-app media playback: To further enhance the media experience, we’re building an in-app media player that supports both portrait and landscape modes. You can now play audio and video objects directly within the editor.
Improved media handling makes working with images and videos feel smoother and more responsive.
Updated image parameters provide better visual clarity and performance across different views.
Bookmarks
Open in browser: Tapping a bookmark now opens it in your browser by default. You can still open bookmark objects in the editor via All Objects → Bookmark → long click menu → open as Object.
Design updates: We’ve also refreshed the bookmark icons and visuals for a cleaner look.
App & Debug
Expanded debug options available for advanced troubleshooting.
Fixes
Stability: Improved overall stability by fixing several issues that could cause the app to crash.
Version History: Adjusted padding so buttons no longer overlap with the system menu.
Members: Leaving a space no longer requires approval from the owner. Members who are being removed no longer appear in the member list.
Remote Storage: Image previews now display with proper icons for your files.
Thanks.
Can you tell me when the photo capture feature will be available directly from the app? Apparently it’s available on iOS, and apparently your team has this feature internally, so all that’s missing is us…
Thank you, it’s one of the two things I’m really looking forward to on the smartphone side!
Nice update, the changes made are essential. I’m glad spaces could not be deleted with a click from the widget, it would be awesome if we are to type the space the before deletion as on Desktop. Pin/Biometric verification for mobile should also be considered.
The “share” button really doesn’t belong there: we don’t share a space every day, while we switch spaces dozens, if not hundreds of times each day. This is a lot less convenient than it should be for such a key part of our flow.
Android team, please address these two bugs. It’s been months and it’s really affecting mobile experience. (I apologize for bringing it up here, but it feels like my reports were ignored.)
Thank you!
EDIT
To add to this, my images are now all ‘edited Today’ after the update. So with the order changed, my backlog of objects that needs updating due to these two bugs are now all over the place.
After installing this update, most properties now show as “Deleted property” on mobile. On Desktop, they show correctly. Maybe a sync issue? Whatever it is, please fix it ASAP, since this renders the use of the mobile app almost useless. Thanks.
Looks great. the pinned bar on top of the keybaord def feels nice, but can we plz get a indent button that does what the tab button does? adding multi indent bullet point is just such as pain in mobile, and I always find the dragging mechanism too slow.
I wanted to write a short, quick review but kept forgetting. Thanks to the team for the update!
I haven’t really checked out the new Android features since I mainly ise Anytype on desktop, but the app feels faster and the image handling feels better (again, haven’t explored much).
One thing I notice is that the in-app player sometimes doesn’t work? I can’t make a bug report about this currently but basically on some audio files the in-app player is called but on some others the system pop up appeared instead. Not a big problem either way.
Anyways, thanks again to the team for this nice update! Looking forward to more feature parity with desktop, including inline LaTeX and Mermaid diagrams!
