The current functionality reserves sets for one-use pages, those whose only purpose is to contain them. This rigidity eliminates the substantial boost in usability that would enabled through a more flexible implementation.
Solution
The way I—and I believe many other users—would get the most use out of sets is with the option to use a slash command (ex. /set) to populate an empty inline set of objects into a page, whether or not it already contains separate content. This adjustment turns sets into merely another item that may be contained in blocks, no different than the various other media and text formatting options already available—essentially streamlining the experience and making it consistent with the already existing expectations for behavior. When typing /set into an empty page, it makes more sense to present the inline option above the full page one, as the user would have likely selected the full page option from the list of Types if they so desired to. The first relation should default to “Short text” and the second should be a “Tags” relation.
I think this should be a priority. It’s probably coming soon for sure, but I’m kind of curious when. It would be really useful since it takes a lot of time to jump from one page to another to add simple information that is related.
Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
Oftentime, when created a projects you want to pull related task (or anything). without opening tasks set or filtering the set view.
Describe the solution you’d like
I’d like pull all of my tasks related to particular projects in that project and then tweaking the set inside that object . the same functionality in notion like create linked database. I hope that make sense
Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
I want to use make my customer profile with their meeting note. I use object for Customer and Meeting Note. I also create Set for both objects. The problem is I want to see the meeting note for specific customer in the customer’s object. I don’t want to click back and searth for Set everytime.
Describe the solution you’d like
Add Set view in Object content
Describe alternatives you’ve considered
I know that we can use link for this but it should be better if we can show list of meeting note without clicking.
Additional context
This is the idea from Notion. You can see that in the object. We can add set view like this.
@Benji300 I think Coda.io can be added as a reference for developing this feature. Their model is using the building block, which Anytype has as Object and Set.
I was trying to link to an object “Product” on a “Task” page and wanted to show some of the relations of the “Product” object, like some properties. I saw I could make the appearance of the link a card and choose to show Cover, Name, Description of the object. And thought how cool it would be if I also could toggle this “Product” object’s relations to be seen on the link.
Soon I realized that this is similiar to having a nested set of “Product” objects inside my “Task” object, that only shows those “Product” objects that are linked to this “Task” object in some way.
I also tend to think that this is one of the most important features to come to AnyType, especially if it is possible to define with precision the views of the set while it is inserted inside an object (just like on a normal set page).
As said, this would open up opportunities for dashboards of tasks, and much more. As a Zettelkasten user, I also tend to think that this opens a big door for the complex step of synthesizing information; you could start a new object in which you want to do your synthesis, and then display a set with custom filters inside this object to see the notes you want to talk about in this synthesis, without having to do constant back and forth as you write to a set page. In that sense, it would work like the embed search plugin of Joplin. The only thing missing would be to display content; but that’s for another feature (transclusion, maybe) !
