Line break (Shift+enter) doesn't work always

What’s The Bug?

I use shift+enter a lot when adding to a text. But sometimes it doesn’t work and when I close AnyType and opening it again, it does work.
This is what I’ve noticed so far:
It doesn’t work when the application is started automatically when booting up my MacBook.
But it sometimes happens too, when I have it running for some time, and then find out that it doesn’t work :frowning:

How To Reproduce It

Go to the end of a highlighted text, press shift+enter, then it should always expand the current highlighted line into 2 lines, move the cursor to line 2 when you can start typing.
But as I said, sometimes, pushing shift+enter doesn’t do anything at all (unless I reboot AnyType).

The Expected Behavior

That shift+enter will always expand the current line type , and it will be positions on the next added line of the same type.

Hi @Marcelloh,

Could you please make a screen recording of the issue? I’m having trouble reproducing it on my Mac.

Also, just to clarify, this is a line break:

This is created with ---. But it seems like you might be referring to either a new block or just a new line within a block.

To sum up, could you provide more details about the problem you’re encountering and the exact steps to reproduce it?

Thanks a lot!

what you show is a line divider

Anyways. It’s hard to predict this strange behaviour because it’s not always. And… what would you see, if you don’t see my type shift-enter on the screen recording. I think the recording would add no value to this issue (because the recording won’t prove it)

We will try to reproduce this, thanks.

This report has been added to our issue tracker and received by the Development Team.

I want to add that sometimes enter doesn’t work as well.

The most often scenario that I experienced (though I cannot purposely reproduce): Doing formatting adjustments from pasting materials into Anytype (e.g. only breaking up paragraphs into blocks or lines, instead of inputting text)

  • Sometimes when I create new block, at certain point, enter performs line break.
  • And other times when I do line break, at certain point, line break create new block instead.

Before I record this video, with the same paragraph, line break was working as enter/ block creation. Then I restore the object to a former state, attempting to record the same behaviour. This time, when I record, enter worked as line break.

Note: I experienced this bug more with Traditional Chinese (Chanjie) than English.
