Grid view CTRL-C should be "pastable" to Excel/... ; or CSV export of Grid view

WHAT DO YOU RECOMMEND?

If in Grid view, marking rows and pressing CTRL-C should copy a “table”-like structure into the clipboard which could then be pasted into any sheet app (Excel, LibreOffice, Google Docs).

Even better – a CSV / .odt export function.

(should this already be planned – an ETA would be really nice, or a link to a location where the implementation is tracked publicly)

HOW COULD IT BE DONE?

See above.

REAL WORLD USE CASES

  • I would like to share the contents of that view with friends in an easy way. Everybody understands Excel.
  • I would like to further process the contents of that view (e.g. for blog post front matters …)

(see also “ADDITIONAL CONTEXT”)

RECOMMENDED ALTERNATIVES

None, if I had workarounds I’d happily use them. I think that is impossible right now.

ADDITIONAL CONTEXT

To get “more familiar” with anytype I created a list of watch manufaturers. A couple of friends would be interested in this as well – as of now I cannot share anything.

Already mentioned in this post, just as one suggestion from many.

Duplicates of:

This one additionally asks for the ability to paste the content back into the same set.

@Filip as for Ability to copy an entire Column of data from a Set, and paste it into a different Column – no. He talks about copy-pasting within Anytype, and that is absolutely not the same as copy-pasting data structures to external applications.

Example: I can already copy-paste a Link/Field relation between Anytype pages, yet I cannot paste this into any external app – nothing will happen. So copy-paste within Anytype could be realized (and is realized like this already in certain situations) without fulfilling “my” requirement.

As for CSV / Excel Export – yup, that’s a dupe, at least in spirit  . Feel free to choose what to implement

@Filip … and I actually would still like the information about …

  • is this planned?
    • if yes – is there an ETA?
    • if not – is this now added to any kind of “todo list” at all, or just ignored?

the “duplicates” are not really dupes (the CSV export says “there’s markdown and anytype”, which is both completely not what I would need), and the copy-paste one talks about (as mentioned) app-internal workflows.

really, is that too much to ask? :frowning:

If there are any updates, we’ll add status tags to this topic (backlog, planning, in-progress, etc.).
For ETAs, these are usually posted on our roadmap, but these are usually reserved for bigger projects. We can’t provide an ETA for each feature request from this forum.

[…] is this now added to any kind of “todo list” at all, or just ignored?

i specifically asked f you even “wrote it down” somewhere. this is an absolute non-answer, i know exactly as much as before, and your roadmap is completely useless (sorry to be so harsh, but lets name it as it is) even for the largest possible goals.

that is disappointing – i invest time to report stuff here, and it honestly feels like it’s not even tracked and you do whatever you do.

i really love the product. that communication though … I feel you want to convey an image of “transparency”, and “we’re totally open”, “our roadmap is public” – my opinon on that would be massively different.

the question now is – can’t you handle your success and are simply lost in space, or is this a marketing strategy?

truly, massively disappointing.

@Filip @anton

This forum is the todo list for feature requests. If it’s something really important, we add it to our internal task tracker. We also go through the forum feature requests during the discovery part of a project. So in this case, when we decide to improve the workflow of our sets / collections, we’ll go through all FRs related to it (including this one).

Please refrain from such comments in the future. We are open to constructive criticism, but this is not it.

Do you really expect as to have an complete answer for every feature request after only two days?

Lastly, we know that the current user feedback process is not ideally, and we plan on improving it in the future. If you have any suggestions, feel free to post them in a separate topic (maybe in Any Talk), but don’t expect us to respond to all of it, and definitely not immediately.

are you for real? I already gave your your costructive criticism (feel free to use it), and if you want less harsh statements maybe try to actually simulate the impression that you try or even care.

the LITERALLY ONLY THING I WANTED is to know whether someone wrote this down somewhere. now i know that “maybe, at some point, it will be added in a secret place - but only if the gods of feature planning consider it ‘really important’ based on ethereal criteria”. yeah, thanks, for me it is, what an extremely condescending answer in total disregard of my use case – which is, let me guess, is not “really important enough”.

I really was wondering what made some people leaving massively pissed off.

now i know.

for real.

Hello everyone, I’ve carefully modeled a nice Knowledgebase of Projects. And as i wanted to just copy paste a column of content to an outside source (say a LLM GUI) i noticed: i can’t copy paste stuff from grid view.

This is a real bummer for me, because I was 100% expecting this behavior. And i can’t export to any other useable format, like CSV. E.g: quick calculatons done in Excel or something.
