I usually use the Highlight option for quotes or other things that I want to stand out. What is a “call out” for?
I had that same “issue”. I barely use call out, but when I use it’s for things that are really important or a call for attention, it’s usually short phrases straight to the point. I use the highlight for quotes, or important paragraphs.
Good call. I am also searching my best-fitted way to make a quote.
I used to use callout… but it is currently very bulky…
I now make it quote object and link it to the source location, because of reusability, ignoring highlight/callout text style.
Currently struggling with note layout or page layout… Both not ideal, I want the text linkable and a clean display of favourite relations below the quote…
Probably change my usage when FR transclusion comes.
If we have better callout display, like Obsidian callouts where you can label it as “Question” or “Important”, then it would be more useful.
Maybe a stupid question on my part but how are Callouts in Obsidian better? I really love Obsidian but Callouts are (almost) exactly the same (yes, a few visual differences but that’s app/theme dependend).
Anytype callouts are better if you want more/all icons/emoticons and custom control over colors where Obsidians callouts can be made foldable. So I would not call one better then the other to be honest.
Anytype:

Obsidian:

Ps. It seems “released” is no longer a supported default callout!
Haven’t used customised callout as much in Anytype. If I have to say a difference, the speed and clicks needed to make it into the green background, icon change, bolding the callout title, changing callout title’s colour.
The good thing about Anytype’s callout is the freedom to upload desired icon.
The difference only makes it quicker for people are using callout every often. Not too much
I think that’s similar to what I do with quotes as well. I’ve made a QUOTES Type with it’s own template. The template is just a sample text that is a highlight. I then replace the sample text with the quote and link it to the human that said the quote.
And then when I click on the specific quote it takes me to the object where I can see the whole quote.
However I only did it this way because I thought there was a way to make a random quote from my quotes type pop up every time I created a journal entry. There’s apparently no plug in for that sort of thing yet. So I may change this method to something even simpler for now.
This would be great is the human object could populate itself when you create a quote object and linked them as the author. Another thing that would be nice is being able to choose to see the full quote instead of a short version, a see more maybe.
Right now it’s a lot of clicking and doing it manually.
True, but only if you know the codes from memory in Obsidian. Take in acount that you need to search which icon is which tag and/or copy it then it might even be slower!
But I wouldn’t say one is much better/faster then another in my opinion. ![]()
Nothing of that sort of functionality is in Anytype yet and I think it is far from being added sadly.
You want a quote randomizer block (that shows a different quote everytime you open up the page) or are you looking for a sync block?
I was thinking more of a randomizer since it’s pretty easy to just link any specific quote manually.
One of the things that I always dislike about journal apps and even old fashioned writing journals is that the quotes they randomize for each entry are often silly. At least I see them that way. Would’ve been nice to be able to get random quotes on each entry from a collection of quotes that I think make practical sense, rather than just talk about fuzzy, woo woo stuff.
Seeing as how that’s not possible, I’ll probably just make human types and simply enter in the quotes as text on that page instead.
@helloyellow the random Input generator is a great idea!
I would use it too.
More Attention
There’s apparently no plug in for that sort of thing yet.
I’ve linked your API & Plugin Request for all who are interested here: Random Input generator. So it gets more attention. ![]()
Workaround
Seeing as how that’s not possible, I’ll probably just make human types and simply enter in the quotes as text on that page instead.
If you find a workaround it would be a great post in the #how-to Category. I would be eager to read it. ![]()
Love your note layout already. ![]()
a clean display of favourite relations below the quote…
I can understand the problem with the clean display. That also bothers me.
