REAL WORLD USE CASES
I’ve set elements for each problem or FR I need into Anytype.
This new type is a task (so I can check it off when it’s done), with a few properties and the URL to the forum.
Because we can’t put a link on the title of an object (it would be handy, but I guess that would also require revising how it works when you click on it), so you need a property.
The goal is to make it easy to go there, not to read the URL!
And I think that’s often the case when using this property: click to go there, not display the URL (sometimes useful, of course, but not the main point).
But the display in the query (list, Grid) shows the text correctly. If you minimize the column in Grid, it takes up little space, but looks ugly and is not clear.
HOW COULD IT BE DONE?
Option 1 : when this property is reduced to min in grid view, transform to a meaningful icon.
Great fro Grid view and the easiest option to implement but limited to Grid I think.
Option 2 : add an option to URL property → Show as a texte / Show as a button
Best option I think, it can used everywhere : in header and properties panel, in each view, in object (and pehaps a day, inline?).
Option 3 : Another option would be to define URL as a title + an URL.
That might be useful too?
For this user case, we could define an emoji in text, which will act as a button.
Not that into Notion, It’s something similar to this option: we use formulas to display an icon that will open the URL (in the screenshot, I’ve the formula property for the button and the URL property, normally hidden) .
ADDITIONAL CONTEXT
I fully support this FR :
Several properties would benefit from improvement, and for URLs, I think these two points would be relevant to address.
