0.50.25-alpha - still not solved. I would need to know whether the problem is definitely unsolvable, in which case I would take on the task of creating a new property and reassigning all affected objects.
Not a fun task.
So specific feedback would be really helpful.
The standard phrase “will be implemented in an upcoming release” is not quite, because it only means “it will be implemented in any of the next releases,” which could also be in two years.
usually this means that it should already be in the current alphas, that will become the new beta release.
if it’s not fixed there I would assume that this issue won’t be fixed in the upcoming release.
perhaps it is in a completely different branch that we are not aware of, that will only get merged when they stage a release.
it really would be helpful if a commit could get assigned to that message. is that possible to implement @Filip ?
In this context, next release refers to the next major release, such as updating from version 0.50 to 0.51.
Unfortunately, this would need to be done manually for each Linear issue since commits aren’t connected to them automatically, so it’s not really feasible for us.
Regarding this issue, we were not able to reproduce it in the latest development build, so it was closed.
@Filip Thank you for the explanation regarding my question about “an upcoming release”. I understand that this might be clear to most users because they do not use alpha versions, I was just trapped in my perspective.
As for the broken multi-select property options, I think that issue will not be reproducible on new spaces and with new versions on your side, so I will assign a new multi-select property to the object type on my affected spaces to replace the broken one and consider this collateral damage due to my using alpha versions at my own risk, assuming that the issue was a one-time event.
Instead of flagging a little bit of frustrated sarcasm as, and I quote, “offensive, abusive, to be hateful conduct“ (I want to write “wtf”, but I probably better dont), you might want to think of actually improving some of the frustration factors.
insanely good starting points for that ominous transparency would be:
update your roadmap to a level that is more than a fig leaf
finally explain what your “ai experiments” are, and how much effort goes in there
actually answer a couple of really simple questions asked in the forum
for example my last one, in some thread: “what actually came out of the ‘summer of bug fixing’” – because, just a side note, a new chat system is not actually “bug fixing” in my book …
all of this has been promised a long time, while the results are … underwhelming (a personal, non-offensive, absolutely calm, and purely observatory opinion. you want reasons? the “news” on the super hyped dev portal are now 6 months old. your editor still does not work properly. no question about AI has been answered. and that you have zero tasks in “editor” on your roadmap is almost offensive to me, I must say. … which makes me think: as a user, can I flag your roadmap as offensive? maybe? or are the tasks hidden because someone beat me to it? that might have been appropriate then … )
or feel free to flag this as well. if that is your reaction to frustration about clearly named things not changing, we don’t have the same mindset. at all. a lot of people make really good points here, in good faith, and your response is flagging posts instead of getting your act together (i just saw you feld insulted here as well, in yet anogher post with really good points made).
ping @Filip, I guess this was the originator, and @anton, to maybe utter another nugget of half-information.
@mkjohnnie How did you deal with that issue? Did you also go through the trouble of creating a new multi-select property and resetting and rearranging all the options?
After investing a considerable amount of time and effort into creating a new multi-select property and re-assigning all options I need (as a replacement for the old one, which could no longer be sorted), that newly created property turned out to have become corrupt too, so the options cannot be sorted manually; any changes made using drag & drop produce chaotic, unpredictable results.
The only thing that works is to drag an option to the top of the options list, where it will remain; but any other movement of an option will fail and mix up all the sort order of the options in an unpredictable way.
The only thing I can do is search for an option, but I cannot use the list because it cannot be sorted.
I must admit that I am a little annoyed.
So my question to the community is: does anyone else have similar problems with manually sorting options of multi-select properties?
Damn, that’s wild—not a single editor bug fix or feature request on the roadmap?
I’m guessing chat features are getting priority because of the reminder feature request—it’s easier to implement and helps attract new users. Looks like the focus is on making things as collaborative as possible. AI seems more like an experiment at this point, probably to draw in even more people. Totally makes sense, though—everyone needs to make money eventually, but it’s gotta align with your mission.
I’m actually pretty excited about the self-hosting becoming easier. But I don’t quite get why all the issues are being shifted to Linear instead of GitHub. Maybe it’s to reduce some of the development pressure?
