What’s The Bug?
Portrait-oriented images with very tall height are blurred on mobile.
Notes:
- The images are uploaded in mobile, so no need to wait for syncing or online connection.
- They are mobile screenshots from Facebook, Messenger, and Instagram. I used the android feature where it continuously creates a screenshot of the scrolled page, producing a very tall image.
- They are all in JPG format.
- The dimensions weren’t affected.
- I can’t upload the full image because it’s private, but I’ve uploaded cropped examples to demonstrate quality.
My observations since I uploaded the images last month:
-
The tallest image (1080 W x 8675 H) is consistently blurred. However, the blur/quality depends on my internet connection. If I’m having a poor connection, the quality is really bad, it looks like a small pixelated image that was zoomed in to fit a bigger screen. (Which is not the case because the image is a screenshot from phone, so it should be of the same width, if not slightly smaller/narrower because it is embedded in the canvas.) If my connection is good, there is a small chance that the image is less blurry or pixelated, but it is still of poor quality and not good for reading. But more often than not, the image is of poor quality, regardless of my wifi or data signal.
-
Images that are in portrait orientation (1080 W x 2867 H and 1080 W x 1165 H), but not as long as the one mentioned above, are often readable or in good quality when I have a decent to good internet connection. In the beginning, it was also blurry, but now it’s often displayed as expected. It looks like the taller the image, the more likely it is to be affected.
-
The quality is better and more readable when you click the image, but it’s still impossible to zoom it to its intended quality. (Though it could be an intentional restriction this time.)
-
The quality is all good on desktop. (Synced and not where the original is uploaded.)
-
I’ve never tried uploading a very wide image to check its landscape equivalent, but so far, I have never experienced any noticeable changes in quality for landscape-oriented images.
How To Reproduce It
- Create a new object. (Mine was a custom journal type)
- Embed a tall image. (1080 W x 8675 H)

The Expected Behavior
The image quality should not be affected because it was uploaded and viewed on a local device.
Additional Context
I’ve had other issues with mobile images. This one was submitted under Feature Requests because I noticed it’s an intended behavior. (Maybe some mods can check it and link it to this bug or move it to bug reports?) I’m still experiencing it in the current version and it’s affecting mobile UX. (Small image enlarged and blurred in mobile)
