Once you close Anytype app and reopen it later, you can't open the app

What’s The Bug?

I just updated my Anytype app to 0.39.0 and every time I close it and reopen it again, it doesn’t open. I had to open task manager and end its task before I can reopen it normally again.

How To Reproduce It

  1. Open Anytype in windows.
  2. Close Anytype.
  3. Reopen again Anytype.
  4. It should not appear in the taskbar nor on screen.

The Expected Behavior

It should not open at all, it doesn’t even appear as an icon on the taskbar, which most apps do when you open them.

Technical Information

Will provide if needed.

This report has been added to our issue tracker and received by the Development Team.

In my case, this happens because the “server” is still running. Also in my case, I disable the “system tray” icon, so the only way really to reopen the app is to kill it and launch again.

Keeping the server running is not bad really, since means reopening would be faster, but it would be great if it would open when the server is already running.

This is the best workaround for now especially for multi monitor setup with Windows.

What’s The Bug?

When the app is open then I minimize it to th tray, then trying to re-open it using the taskbar-pinned icon or the start menu one, it won’t open.
It’s only openable by double clicking the tray icon or restarting the app.

How To Reproduce It

  1. Open the app
  2. Minimize to tray
  3. Click the taskbar-pinned icon or run the app from the start menu
  4. The app won’t open
  5. Try double-clicking the tray icon instead and it will open

Hey everyone. The team is currently working on fixing this, but as a temporary workaround you can reopen the app through the system tray / menu. If clicking on it doesn’t work, you can try using the right-click to open the menu, and then select Open Anytype. For this to work, you need to make sure that you have the Show Anytype in Menu Bar option enabled.

What’s The Bug?

When you close Anytype app and you try to open it again, it won’t open until you stop the process in the task manager.

How To Reproduce It

  1. Open a window of Anytype.
  2. Close it.
  3. Try to open it again.

The Expected Behavior

You should be able to open Anytype again without problem.

I’m not sure if it is without danger for the data integrity to shut down the tasks this way?

The developers may have some wise words about it, please.

I forgot.

Other way of closing it is via this menu (that I don’t know how it’s called in english):

Captura de pantalla 2024-03-15 235538

Closing from here has the same effect as closing it from task manager, and it’s probably safer.

I am experiencing the identical issue on Windows 11, v0.39.

I am also using custom CSS (with custom.css file in root directory), maybe that somehow contributed to this bug.

this should be related to this: Once you close Anytype app and reopen it later, you can't open the app

Same here, windows 11, Thinkpad. Have to reboot laptop to get Anytype 0.39.0 to open.

If you click on ‘Abrir Anytype’ from the same menu that you used to close Anytype, would it open again ?

I’ll try when I’m back home

Yep, it seems like

It does!

If I click on quit from that menu, it closes, then opens normally when I open it from the pinned task icon.
Thanks.

What about not clicking on quit, but just clicking on Open Anytype from that menu, without the need to close the app
