New to Anytype? Say hello!

Im curious to see what you are coming up with because Im trying the same thing.

Still in test mode. My initial thing was just to set it up to make it as close to Evernote as possible. So I started with only one TYPE the NOTE and Collection and Sets acted as Stacks and Notebooks.

I only started to use other type and linking objects since 2-3 days.

Hello, I’m antonbundle, a French civil servant who’s discovered a great alternative to Notion.
I’d like to use Anytype, but my English is pretty bad. So if there’s a French community, I’d love to join.

Why Anytype?

Because the information is stored locally, and that’s absolute security in my business!
I want to set up a CRM, project management with meeting notes and related tasks, and a PKM.

I look forward to hearing from you…

社区的朋友们大家好,我是一个小白java开发者

Hi all :waving_hand:, I’m Danie from Cape Town, South Africa, where I’m a tech blogger. I have been a pretty intensive user over the years of QOwnNotes, Obsidian, Joplin and AFFiNE, before moving about two months ago to Anytpe. Anytype really seems to tick nearly all the boxes I have (with the last two boxes in the pipeline to being ticked in 2026).

I have over 1,000 notes (now in Pages) so I use my notes quite intensively for everything I’m learning about and exploring daily. So far I’m really impressed with Anytype! :slightly_smiling_face:

French here too

Bienvenue à bord. J’ai fait de Anytype mon radar dans le cadre pro et franchement, quand je vois tous mes homologues et collègues faire du excel dans tous les sens, je ris :stuck_out_tongue:

Welcome :balloon:

Hi everyone. I’m Daniel from Germany, living in Ireland. I’ve been using UpNote for about a year (previously Keep and various other tools on and off) and just imported 400+ Markdown files into AnyType. I’m still learning how to do things and what the best structure is for me. I’m going through all objects, changing the type where needed (most of my objects are actually bookmarks so I have to change hundreds from type Page to Bookmark), and adding tags. I seem to have way more objects than the number of files I imported. Searching or filtering for tags is way less easy than it was in UpNote. A separate menu item for tags on the left would be great.

My biggest problem is that global search doesn’t work as expected. I know that a lot of my objects contain a certain string, however, when I search for it, I don’t see any or all objects but am asked to create a new object which I don’t want to do. I just want to see all objects with that search string. I’ve followed the “rename data folder to trigger reindexing” advice but nothing has improved. Unless reindexing takes a few hundred objects takes hours and I just need to wait much longer for it to be completed.

Overall, I really like AnyType but unless I can fix the global search issue, I might have to go back to UpNote.

Hey Daniel, welcome to Anytype!

I’ve already replied to you regarding the search issue here:

I’ve been following the news and development progress on Anytype for the last year. Check it once or twice before but it didn’t click.

I liked the direction of Anytype as a company and a product before but the town hall meeting of late 2025 convinced me even more that I should consider Anytype as an alternative to Notion.

I’ve been using Notion almost since it’s release and was generally happy with it until they pivoted heavily to AI and serving corporate clients more. Also, lately their cloud infrastructure is way less reliable for me and I’m worried I might lose my data or access to it in general.

It’s really hard to move to Anytype with very little quality documentation and educational materials. There are unique concepts that make it difficult to “just” move to Anytype. Even simplest things like creating an embedded bookmark to an online source take so many steps.

But I’m hoping these things will be ironed out. Or I’ll just learn how to work in Anytype. In general, I really like where the app is going.

Hello everyone :waving_hand:

I’m currently an undergrad student and was looking for something to replace OneNote for study notes and lectures. Preferably something local, because that way if I lose internet access I can still write stuff. I’ve been using AnyType for the past few days now and I have to say, apart from a few bugs, it feels pretty dang natural to write on it now!

I can’t wait to see how this app will evolve, and I’m glad to be a part of the experience!

What do you mean, Alexey?
If you paste an URL somewhere into a Page or Note, you can chose “Bookmark”.
And here you have it: the bookmark is embedded and visible with image and a short teaser.

No complicated steps necessary; simply Ctrl + V somewhere in the text, wherever you want.

Unfortunately, not my experience. I heavily rely on visual bookmarks to gather information for reference or to take action on it at a later date. I need those blocks to look visually appealing and with essential information to recognize what it’s about (points are in the order of importance):

  1. Title. The title of a page the link points to.
  2. Thumbnail. A small image to have a stronger visual description of the page the bookmark points to.
  3. Source. Both visible URL path and icon are important to recognize the source of the link.
  4. Description. A short description that is usually provided by a page.

Here is how it works in Notion:

There are minimum actions I need to take and it gives me all the information I need from a bookmark. As a bonus I can even add a caption or a comment to the block.

Here is what happens in Anytype (0.54.1) at the moment:

Pretty much all instances fails to provide essential information and for YouTube it grabbed some other language for the description than English for some reason. So in my experience this is not working functionality. It doesn’t provide expected outcome.

As far as I understand, I can fill it in manually for each bookmark but it would tank my productivity so it’s practically not an option. This is one of the basic functionalities that I just need to have to migrate to Anytype.

This is indeed not what’s expected.
I’ve extracted the three links from your given example and I can reproduce the issues.

Only the YouTube-link works flawless for me, with English text. But the other two bookmarks does indeed not extract very useful information from the websites.

@alexeyadamitsky and because Bookmarks are so important for you, just in case you didn’t know it:
You can put a Bookmark in a second column and then modify its size.
