New Relation Type: "Query Objects"

WHAT DO YOU RECOMMEND?

I’m using Anytype everyday at my Job for Project management. It served me very well so far. I’m using following setup (simplified in a Demo-Space):

Inside a Project a have an inline Set where I filter the Task with a Project Link to the relevant Projects:

Everyday I check all my projects on the project Overview page, where I see the Project and the “next steps”. In the next steps I feature only the really relevant next steps. The backlog is normally much longer in each project. In that way I have a fast overview what I need to do at the moment.

But my issue now is, that I have to manually select the next steps in the “next step” releation field. It would be much nicer if there would be a relation type called “Query Object Relation”. I imagine this to function like a filter in a Database. I would define a filter that queries all the Tasks from Project X & higlighed with a checkbox “next”:

And then it would automatically only show all the tasks I’ve marked as “next” tasks. When I tick off the task It could also directly show the next task based on a defined order. (either manually or with the sort function). I think this should be easily achievable through filters. Maybe we could even define how many objects should be visible in the relation. (similar as in the widgets).

HOW COULD IT BE DONE?

  • add a new relation type
  • use the already existing filter logic for tables
  • show filtered objects in the relation

REAL WORLD USE CASES

  • project management
  • Inventory
  • etc.

RECOMMENDED ALTERNATIVES

  • manually add the objects with the existing object relation type

I’m pretty sure that you should be able to do this already with inline sets. I’ll check a bit later if I can re-create this.

Hmm, i would be quite surprised if this works… the inline Set is not the Problem. In each Project I have an inline Set where I filter all the task belonging to the Project.

But in the main Project Set view, where I see all my projects I want to see the next tasks that I have selected inside the project (in the inline set) as an overview. Those next steps are only a few Tasks from the Project → only the immediate next steps, 1-3 tasks only.

And at the moment I manually add them in the “next step” object relation:

And I would like this Object relation field in the main Set to be a query field

Great idea! Saving time is always a great idea

Is this related to what is mentioned here?

Also related to advanced filter.

Other than object type, it would be great if we can apply more filter criteria.
