New Card Format

WHAT DO YOU RECOMMEND?

I want Anytype to offer a card format when creating a new type. This format would display as a small, compact card — not meant to be opened in full screen — designed for short content like quotes, definitions, or quick reviews (flashcards too).

HOW COULD IT BE DONE?

When creating a new type, a “Card” option could be added in the format section (alongside “Page” and “list”). This format would behave like a Page in terms of properties but would have a customizable character limit and a more condensed visual layout.

When used in a Collection, there should be an easy way to flip through cards — like flipping through a deck or stack.

REAL WORLD USE CASES

  • Account info: name, short description, email, profile photo, phone number
  • Web/page quotes
  • Dictionaries: vocabulary, programming functions, commands
    Card + toggles = flashcards.
  • Quick thoughts: small ideas I want to capture and review later

Also, when I’m on a regular Page, I’d love that if I link to a Card and hover or focus on it, the content gets revealed without needing to fully open it.

Lastly, there should be a smooth way to convert Cards into full Pages and vice versa, whenever possible based on content limits and formatting.

RECOMMENDED ALTERNATIVES

Just using regular Pages (which aren’t ideal for short or preview-style content).

ADDITIONAL CONTEXT

I know there’s already a flashcard feature request, but this is something different — I’m pushing the idea a bit further.

Personally, I would use this to:

  • Capture small thoughts and review them later
  • Write short descriptions for programming functions
  • Create ultra-basic objects like fruits or vegetables as lightweight entries

To be clear, first of all, this and the previous text were created with ChatGPT, so some details were lost.

One of those details is that the format would not be full screen because it would defeat the purpose of the card. I imagine it more as a pop-up window with any text you want, although with a character limit.

Limitations such as not being able to have collections or queries inside also seem reasonable to me. We must remember that the purpose of a card is to provide quick information
and to be easily browsed through.

I like the idea so much that I’m willing to make some mini concept art to see how it would look and share it here.

Sounds related or had overlapping requests:

How do you visualize creating it if the new empty type (ex: page) is already in full view? I think a mockup would explain this better and differentiate it from the other requests and workarounds, especially for the Collection views where you expect the type’s window to behave differently.

My proposal is something like this:

Not much text, compact format, and very easy to navigate through in a collection.

The other requests are for the card layout, I think. The most similar thing in Anytype is when I click open a page with Shift.

I didn’t understand that much about your question, probably due to my bad English.

I was trying to imagine how your card format would look like if full view is unavoidable, such as when you create a new object (ex: page) and then convert it into a card.
