Inline LaTeX Addition

+1. I think the inline latex is a basic function that a note-taking app should have. It is difficult to take scientific notes without such a function. It is the most important function I am waiting for before I move to Anytype. Really hope it could come soon.

+1 chiming in here as well. This is an absolute must in STEM fields. I’m surprised that not just Anytype but a few other competitors also lack inline LaTeX. I’ve always tried to suggest their developers to implement inline LaTeX but so far none of them have even tried to implement such a feature. I hope Anytype will be different.

+1 This feature is very essential for people with backgrounds in STEM.

Hello everyone  We can see it is highly requested feature and will discuss with devs possibility of doing this.

That is perfect. Thank you very much for considering this request. Cannot wait for it to be released

+1. What is the expected time of arrival of this feature and in what release?

The dev team estimated this one as hard to implement so we postponed this one till after public release. We want to introduce more general and wider coverage improvement prior to release and will return to consider this one right after release

+1, also, it would be fantastic if we could type inline equations in a TABLE!

+1, it’s a deal breaker for any student!

This feature request from Oct’21 :anguished:

We really need this feature

Hi @PavloUA . This is just the matter of priorities. Inline latex is complex feature with a niche user audience. It could not stand against collections or kanban in terms of impact. However we are listening to the community and planning most upvoted features in the forum. This is still not the one :dotted_line_face:
Here is the example: Support for inline creation and display of sets

just out of curiosity @ignatovv, both obsidian and Notion support markdown and block and inline Latex input and in the Notion’s case, its interface (implementation of blocks) is similar to Anytype.

So my question is how come those can support inline Latex while also having a mobile version but Anytype can’t or if I remembered correctly it was said that there are some limitation factors when it comes to rendering the inline Latex in the mobile version . I would like to hear you shine some light on the matter.

I don’t see real tech limitations to implement this on mobile. The reason why it is not present yet is implementation time. Feature is technically challenging and for now only 10% of our current users ever used latex block. Eventually we will introduce this one. But you can check out the forum under feature request tag and there are a ton of request and it is really hard to balance between them and in the same time maintain quality and strive for vision. So for now inline latex in the ā€œlaterā€ part of roadmap. As I previously mention we are taking into development most upvoted features on the forum despite everything.

Oh, I see. Thanks for the explanation :slightly_smiling_face:

+1, definitely need this as a student

Thank you very much for your explanation. It makes a lot of sense.

However, is it possible that the target users of the latex block are also the target users of inline latex, i.e., the reason why users do not use the latex block or mainly use AnyType is that there is no inline latex function?

For example, I am a PhD student who writes a lot of equations in notes with latex. However, I do not write any notes with equations on AnyType, because there is no inline latex function so that I cannot explain my equation in text mathematically (to me, most of variables in equations need be explained in text).

Anyway, I like AnyType, not only its current features but also its design concept and the responsive developer team. Thank you again for delivering such a nice product to us. I look forward to the inline latex feature on AnyType in the future.

Well said, I definitely agree with you.

As a student, inline latex is such a critical feature to properly make use of equations and explanations. I try to use Anytype as much as possible, because overall I love it, but sometimes it’s annoying to put everything in latex blocks.

I don’t know exactly what’s the main user base of Anytype users. But i would assume - because of the nature of Anytype - most of us are rather tech-savvy users who sooner or later will use math equations etc. That’s why i hope it’s going to be implemented after public beta.

Well said, same here.

Yes exactly!!

I share your ideas @jiywww and hopefully we will nail this request. But my point was about

only 10% of our current users ever used latex block

If you want to use latex I assume you at least will create this block once to understand its capabilities, maybe it will somehow transform to inline or smth like this. But only 10% of users have done it. And I highly doubt they just check out for inline latext and never dare to create a latex block. What do you think?
