CURRENT PROBLEM
People ask for different icon display options for object types, object itself, bookmarks, and different visualisation. e.g. type icons, bookmark icon not shown on mobile to reduce storage requirement
WHAT DO YOU RECOMMEND
It would be great if user can change icon display options:
- Display icon for object type (For pattern observation and grouping) or icon for object itself (For content understanding) ← Since there are basically two icons for one object
- Display icon without text (Good for emojis, that requires no text understanding)
- Text only without icon (Good for long writing / texts, where icons disturb reading)
- Size of icons (Good if user want to focus on pictures to understand content). Maybe more difficult to implement on set / collection / relation
Please suggest more if you have other requirements in mind.
HOW COULD IT BE DONE
An appearance menu pane like graph appearance menu pane to control icon display across the program, for blocks, sets, collections, graph, flow. Thus, display option expansion for graph view and expand its pane to overall program.
Perhaps consider specifiable preset display options for mobile, indicating not loading information on mobile, but this could intervene the concept of decentralised storage. (Personally don’t need this part of FR as much)
REAL WORLD USE CASES
As stated in what do you recommend
RECOMMENDED ALTERNATIVES
Implementation method need to consider Ease of access and least disruption to current workflow / UI.
Change display options at FR obsidian like command palette.
ADDITIONAL CONTEXT
The current FR is an expanded replacement of the following for the original set icon display.
If multiple type, sub-type or inheritance are implemented, one object can contain 2+ icons. The priority of icon display can be decided by type hierarchy or pre-specified icon.
