How to find "orphan" images : that are not linked to any note, page or any other element?

When I add a picture to a note, it adds as a specific object that is linked to that note.
So far, so good.

But if I delete the note, the image stays in the database - even though I don’t need it anymore. If I let it go, my database will be unnecessary TOO BIG !

Not to mention that I will easily reach the 1GB of data that limits my sync.

I created a Set of images, display as cards… I can see all images.
Great… but after a while, I just can’t remember if they are actually linked to certain notes or not ! Not to mention doublons… which one shall I delete?

I know that there is a hidden object called “backlinks” that help identify if it is linked to any object or not… but I can’t find it in the list of relations that I could include in the filter of the set…

So … how to do?

Thanx for your help !

Backlinks relation is not yet fully functional, but I believe that there are plans to include it fully in sets, so you would be able to use it as a filter later on to do this.

:crossed_fingers:

This issue is quite troublesome. The note-taking software should develop a feature to clean up the database, which includes removing orphaned images, plugins, files, and other items that are not linked to valid pages.

Totally agree !

@Filip , any recommendations on using a filter somehow to identify them?

There’s no way to use filters to identify them at the moment. You can vote for this FR if you would like this to be implemented:

i created a Query ofimages that filters on link is empty and backlink is empty…

Yes, but this possibility is relative new.
Not so long ago, images didn’t have backlinks. It was one of my most missed featured for a long time.

True, but that totally solves the initial issue by now
