Homescreen from Legacy App

You could enable the cover in Gallery View to make it a bit more visually pleasing (though that does take up a lot of screen space). You do this with the settings in the top right.

You could also enable one or more relations like description or creation date if that fits your preferences.

Hey @Jeroen,
Thanks for your ideas.

Have already enabled/disabled all kind of combinations.
In the end, only to try to place the icons larger or separated from the name above.
All this did not made the icon bigger and appart from the name.

And your “Page Cover” was one try. But as you wrote, it eats up a lot of space:

  • For one thing in the favorites collection.
  • But even worse in the object itself

Anytype Legacy-Style

But, If someone finds a solution to

  • “enlarge” the icon’s and
  • separate it from the name line and
  • position it above
(of course in the Collections solution not in @Kerstie’s Page solution)

please let me know!

Hi everyone, interesting discussion, I like the feature request but I think the future of the home page will just be having more customizable objects.

I moved your discussion here from the trail guide to keep the topics cleaner and the conversation all together.
In cases like this one you can also ask a mod to implement your discussion into a feature request.

I haven’t read all this, but wouldn’t it make sense to have a dashboard that already works for new (or lazy, like me) users?
And personally, I don’t want to mess around with the “face” of the software. I’ve wasted a lot of time trying to make it “perfect” only to realize that I was working better with what was already there…
IDK, maybe keep it, but make it optional as proposed? I know that adds overhead for the team, as they will have to maintain that, but I think this adds some friction to the app, and the “Dashboard” as an object should be optional. It’ll make it easier to understand for users that maybe never used a note-taking app.

 i @JorgeE,
Yeah of course you are right.
The Homesscreen would make more work for DevTeam.
But the Collection-Work-Around is still a work around, if you know the smooth workflow with the legacy Homescreen.
All was so simple and obviously before beta to work with a lot new Pages/notes/Objects.

One click on Favorites, done. From any point in App-Deepness one click on bottom-middle and one more to change to next Object.
In any device the same simple path to move fast from different objects bye two clicks.

Maybe the Collections will get better. But currently it seams the order especially in mobile is not synced and every change in mobile needs 2 clicks more and the loading for collections is not as fast as the old Homescreen.
Also in desktop there are more clicks to do (open the page full-wtih) and the time until I’m again ready to work in next data-set is longer.

I know 2-3 seconds and 2 clicks more: who cares!?
But if you change a lot every hour and create a lot new data-sets it feels paining.

But yes, without a comparising to the legacy-smooth-fast-and-less-click Homescreen and with only a few pages or only to take some notes every few days, it’s fine.

And yes, anytype is a great tool, I love it.
But the legacy (IMHO) Homescreen-solution was much more intuitiv (The “Add to Favorites” button alone was a blessing, and combined with the “go to Favorites” bottom-middle – ohh I miss both of them a lot) simpler and when switching between many elements, especially in mobile but also on desktop, it feels like there is now extremely more time wasting built in.

But without direct-comparison all is fine. Maybe it could be or will get much much easier, faster and more built-in intuitivity some day or version.

It’s just a pitty that brilliant things are being cut without replacement.
I would immediately switch back to legacy if it wasn’t a dead end and all important data-sets are changed and not backward compatible. :frowning:.

But it’s not whining or complaining, it’s just mourning…

@kerbless thx for your change/move as feature request.

that leagcy Homepage looked so neat / Hope it will comeback one day
