Global Search does find content only when word is (nearly) fully typed

Describe the bug

When searching for content the search bar only finds words in the content part of an object, when atleast all characters minus 1 are typed.

For example to find “apple” I have to type “appl”. Then it shows up, but not before.

To Reproduce

Steps to reproduce the behavior:

    1. Take some word from the content of an object.
    1. Start typing it into the search bar.
    1. Will only show up on the last two letters.

Expected behavior

I dont know if searching all objects with every typed char is practical. But at least after a few chars I think it should start searching

The search for the titles of objects is much better now. Thank you.

While this thread was mentioned in the changelog in 0.24.0. The text there refers to the title only.
This thread here initially was about the content.
In the current state I can find the right object only, when I have a word fully typed, thats in that object.

Is it planned to do the search for content also with partially written words?

@Angelo This report was mentioned in the release notes of 0.24.0 to be fixed. The fix just fixed it for the title, not the content, which was the reason of this report.
Is this report still in the view of the team or was it “closed” for them?

I realize this topic has been touched on already but wanted to loop back and include this reply from a similar post.

Have any improvements been made recently to search function @ignatovv ?

Still in 0.29.0

I tried some cases, and found that the search logics are a little different, maybe.

When I input “app” in the search bar, the page with title of “application” appears, while the page with content of “application” does not.

That’s correct. Titles are handled differently. This report is for the content.

Btw, global search does not work for files or images, I mean, can not search for files through their names.

For now I think thats good actually. Especially because all the images just coming from screenshots etc would be show up there.

Fair enough. It depends on a good habit to tag or rename every single file/image according to their contents, unless a better way to organize all the files comes out in the future version.

I hope for a customizable search to configure what I want to include. Relations, relations content, files, other objects, templates. Everybody may like it another way.

@Flip is it still an issue?

@Angelo
Yes.

Ok, can you create a new bug report please. This one is canceled because it’s from an old version. (That’s also why it isn’t getting picked up by Linear)
