Exporting to PDF in dark mode creates different and unexpected results

What’s The Bug?

I noticed multiple unexpected results when exporting a page to PDF in the desktop client, depending on the Color mode settings:

(1) The client is set to display in dark mode, so in the desktop app standard text is white on a black background. However, when I export to PDF (leaving “Print background” option unchecked), it prints a black box with white text on a white sheet in the PDF document.

(2) The client is set to system color mode, which for me results in a dark color scheme (again, white text on a black background). This time, when I export to PDF, it prints white(ish) text color on a white page.

How To Reproduce It

Windows Desktop app:

  1. Settings → Vault → Color mode (select either Dark or System when OS is set to dark mode)
  2. Open an object
  3. In the … - menu select Export
  4. Select PDF as the Export format and leave Print background unchecked (in my case page size is set to A4)

The Expected Behavior

I would expect a standard PDF document is created with black text on white paper.

What’s The Bug?

When the app is in dark mode, an export to PDF is basically unreadable because the font is too light.

How To Reproduce It

  1. Make sure the app is in dark mode
  2. Create a text document
  3. Export to PDF
  4. View the PDF

The Expected Behavior

PDFs should be exported in regular mode, not dark mode, or some other means used to ensure they are legible.
