Date’s an object! WOOO! Very cool to open it and see everything created and done on that day. But… I expected to be able to add relations to it and make a set out of it. That’s part of how an object’s functionality has been up until this point, after all.
I previously created a new type called “Day.” To it, I have attached a bunch of relations, including productivity rating, events, tasks, mood, menstrual cycle phase, month, etc. I was waiting for Date as an Object so I could change my current ‘Day’ objects to the new Date object. The problem is that, again, I can’t attach relations or create a set out of this new Date object. I truly hate to bring up the negatives when this has been anticipated for so long, but I hope you can understand the concern and consider redesigning it somehow to allow for the mentioned functionality. Also, let me know if I need to create an FR for this.
Regardless, though, again, it’s cool to see everything done in a day and FINALLY be able to link it in text. Anytype’s made so much progress this year, and I’m happier to use it by the day and day. Much love, Anyteam
When I saw it on the roadmap I thought it would be something along the lines of Capacities or Reflect, where you could add relations or, more importantly, be able to write in it, to create a journal.
The way it is now, it’s kind cool, but I don’t see myself using it very often, it’s been several days since they released it in alpha and I don’t think I’ve ever really used it, even though I’m a daily Anytype user
But I think this will be implemented in the future, at least I hope so
Ooh I think so, though I do think mine is a bit more specific and direct. Either way, we’ll need to wait for the requests to potentially be merged by the Anyteam.
Hey…could you describe how this new ‘date a an object works’?
I’ve tried different things (on ver 43.8) and I am not able to click on a date and see it as an object. Clicking on a date simply gives me a date picker to select another date…
Yeah, that’s another problem with it, I had to keep trying different things to open it. You have to right-click, or if you’re on Mac, click with two fingers on top of the date. Then it’ll give you the option to open as an object. Also If you open a calendar view and click on the date, it’ll open. There’s probs other ways too, but those are top of mind.

In calendar view, the dates are not clickable.
If I right click on the new relation of type date I created, no option to open as object.
Unsure how come you see all that. On what version are you on?
I will be honest, I do not see the difference between how it was before and how it is now except from it showing up on the graph (annoying) and having more filters (basically a glorified Set). As it stands, it feels like a weird/confusing choice to highlight as a top feature of the new release.
As OP, I was hoping to replace my daily notes with just a date as an object, without needing a separate type that just represents @today.
Yes, that was my hope as well and I replied that back in the test branch earlier this week. An object like any page is with the addition of the current date links added to it.
The reason it’s done this way is that automaticly creating (infinity) date objects would be a bit taxing for the app. Makes sense if you put it that way.
To which I replied that objects should only be created when the user ask for it and if there is no object created that the current view would be shown, including a create object for this date button.
They just redesigned it and that’s it, it didn’t change anything in practice, what’s the point of showing it on the graph if you can’t change anything in the “object”. It only serves to pollute more.
But I’ve learned that the less I expect, the less I’m disappointed. When I saw it on the roadmap, I was excited, but as I saw the commits, I knew it wasn’t going to be what we expected.
Yea, I’m hoping this is the foundation for further development soon.
It’s cool to be able to reference dates in text, and to open the dates page and seeing what’s referenced without having to build a set for this… but when it comes to usefulness, I sadly don’t find any without further functionality.
Leaving this here as a wish for the team to eventually develop this like Capacities’s daily notes, and allowing us to treat the object as a journal (And of course, simple formulas was a really nice addition! And I’m grateful the team took the time to at least start this, it’s a step forward from the old dates page)
Guys, the first step in programming is to implement the data structure.
The second step is to knit all the specific functions in the user interface so that the users can do this and that stuff with it.
Normally the second step makes much more work for the programmer than the fist one.

I think the community should continue providing feedback, but not be impatient. Otherwise, the anyType team could decide in the future to release features once they are far more developed, instead of giving access to it piece by piece.
You said it well: they built the foundation for he object and now they will add more functionality and integration with other parts of the app.
I spent last 2 weeks trying out capacities. And you know what?
They for sure have some nice polished things. Inline tasks. Much better calendar. Inline tags. Etc, etc.
But they also don’t have beautiful side widgets like anyType does. Their code is NOT local first, is not E2E encrypted (they refuse to do it and even justify why E2E is worst), is not implemented on the decentralized IPFS. Yes their queries are further ahead (and costs you $16CAD/month!), but you also cannot properly embed them into other pages because the formatting has such huge margins that it is unusable. Also their code is not even open code.
Each applications are further ahead in different areas. But anyType has a far better underlying structure in my opinion, so I rather support them. But sure, I am dying for better dates, time, ranges, inline tasks and inline tags. Cheers!
