Command+w closes the app instead of the active window (Mac)

What’s The Bug?

When the main window is active, closing it will close the app, instead of closing just the window.

How To Reproduce It

Create several new windows
Select main window
Close it
Other windows are closed.

The Expected Behavior

Closing the main window shouldn’t close all other windows.

Can we get a video of the issue? I can’t reproduce it on Linux. Only the active window gets closed for me; no matter which window I close with Ctrl + W (including the “main” one).

I can reproduce this on macOS.

When I have 2 windows open and have the first window in focus, CMD+W quits the whole app.

When I have 2 windows open and have the second window in focus, CMD+W closes just the second window and the first one stays as it should.

This report has been added to our issue tracker and received by the Development Team.

Hello Angelo! This wasn’t solved on the latest release, do yo think it will be fixed soon?

I can confirm this happens on v.0.43.1 with MacOS 14.7. Here is a video for reference.

We don’t have an ETA for the fix.

I’m sorry, I didn’t get the problem, cmd+w is an ordinary shortcut for Mac OS, it closes current window except the main one, main is just hidden. Cmd + Q exists the app completely. And I didn’t understand the last video at all.

when you have multiple windows open and you close the first window of anytype with CMD+W you quit the whole application and don’t only close the first window.

Yes, happens the same if you close it with CMD+W or if you close it with the mouse.

Now I couldn’t reproduce it to make a better screen recording… :face_with_raised_eyebrow::woman_facepalming:

This is a video of the bug

I first thought perhaps it’s an Electron thing. But I tested this with another Electron app I use: Inkdrop. It works as expected there (closing one window always only closes that one window and not the whole app like Anytype does).

This still happens on version 0.44.0

Can those that have this issue confirm if it happens at all times?
I just tried this on linux - Pop OS!, running AT from a debian package and it behaves as it is supposed to, just like it does for @Filip

Narrowing it down would help the devs.

Cheers

Yes it does. I’m using macOS Sonoma 14.7

is possible that this bug could be fixed in the next release?

yes it is still happening with 0.44.13-beta, every time, like described above - perhaps macOS specific

This still happens on version 0.45.2

Can’t reproduce, press cmd + w in an open second window.
