What’s The Bug?

Cannot recover my space with my recovery key on 0.38.X version on Android

How To Reproduce It

  1. Download 0.38.21 ver: https://github.com/anyproto/anytype-kotlin/releases/download/0.38.21/anytype-0.38.21.apk
  2. Install it
  3. Click ‘I have already key’ → Input key
  4. Enter the recover button
  5. Nothing happens. It remains on the recovery key input screen.

Recover my space and sync

I’ve used the 0.38.21 version until 2025/10/17, And suddenly the Anytype network was incompatible since the day.
And I reinstalled the version and I’ve encountered the recovery issue on 2025/10/18.

The reason that I use the 0.38.21 version rather than latest version is change of opening bookmark feature. If the option to open a bookmark as a object at default is provided for backward compatibility, I want to use the latest version.

Could you please share what exactly happens when you input your key? Are you unable to login or are some of your spaces missing after you login?

We haven’t received any bug reports about this issue before. Could you please share a video or screenshot showing what happens when you try to log in?

In any case, we always recommend using the latest app version, as there is always a chance that something might not work (especially syncing).

So, for backward compatibility, I want to request that the feature allow opening a bookmark as an object by default.

Recover doesn’t work only on the 0.38.x version.

This report has been added to our issue tracker and received by the Development Team.

Unfortunately, as you can log in just fine on the latest version of the app, this issue is a very low priority for us.

I see that some users are experiencing an issue with opening bookmark objects. I’ll discuss possible solutions with the product team — it might make sense to let users configure how bookmarks are opened themselves.

If there’s a link tracking the opening bookmark object issue, I’d really appreciate it if you could share it with me. I’ll keep an eye on the discussion there.

As I mentioned earlier, I’d also like to use the latest version, but the bookmark object issue is currently a blocker for me. I’m looking forward to the feature that allows users to configure it being released, rather than waiting for the bug fix in the 0.38.x version.

If that feature is a low priority, I may look into alternative apps… but I’d definitely prefer to continue using this app.
