Since I was introduced to Anytype and got my hands on the beta builds, the sidebar has been the most exciting feature for me.
Its clean design and near-complete customization made me feel like I was in complete control of my user experience.
Having to deal with two sidebars at once, with the new second one taking up my space and limiting access to the app and/or vault settings if I make the choice not to see it, takes away that feeling and Iām not happy with it.
After testing heavily during the early alpha stages, I took a bit of a break from Anytype to wait for more significant jumps in development. Iām happy to say that this latest update has motivated me to come back on and start using the platform for my day-to-day personal work.
I do, too. And not only for personal, but also professional work. There is nothing like it.
Notion, Affine Pro, Capacities (and whatnot) are not encrypted, Standard Notes / Notesnook are hard to organize, with Obsidian / Logseq other apps can just read my Markdown files
If you have any recommendation for another application that is E2EE Iām all ears
edit: I would like to add that I also create regular backups (also before new major releases) with the export space feature just to be on the save side.
Iām using the app since last fall now exclusively for my project management and note taking and have not experienced any single data loss. Iām still careful with multiplayer but the history at least saved me once there in case another person overwrote something.
What changed between 0.42.3 and 0.42.4-5-6? The last three minor updates (āhotfixesā) came with no documentation about what was updated⦠By the way, a supposedly-resolved bug I wrote about in December is still there.
Edit:
Weāre already at 0.42.8. Has something changed in the update approach? I donāt mind hotfixes, but they never came so fast, almost always came with some explanation about the minor bugs they resolved.
Kudos for the hard work and fast turnover, but Iām still curious whatās going on.
One thing I did notice is that my buried-alive bug finally got some attention. If the inline-set title is short enough then the fix works. Unfortunately, the bug persists if the inline-set title is longer than the assigned column width.
Frankly, this is not a priority of mine. I reported this bug in December '23 and just learned to live with it, as well as other bugs I gave up on reporting. Iād much rather see actual usability improve. If RTL language support really is too much to ask for Christmas, maybe block toggling? Wrap overflowing text in Set grid view? Select emojis/icons for Space icons? Thereās such a long list of minor usability improvements to make, donāt waste time on this.
