In general, would be good to not have Name be a mandatory Relation. Possible solutions on how to make this work with current implementation are mentioned in the link above in the comment by @thiago_nascimentodf .
Yes!
My use case: photo gallery.
Not always need a title… and even less need to “spoil” the display by showing it.
OK, Notion already has this problem but I might as well do better
I’m trying to build flashcards and have views that only display each flashcard’s word in a specific language, but having the name always visible ruins it for me
I would like to recommend that object name column can be untoggled /hidden in a query view. Or at least make it collapsible on mobile.
HOW COULD IT BE DONE?
Simply allow the names to be untoggled in the ‘properties’ setting of a query view.
REAL WORLD USE CASES
There are cases where I want to log data, where I don’t need to give the entry a title / name, or have no interest in the title / name.
RECOMMENDED ALTERNATIVES
Alternatively, there is a choice to use a unique number instead of a title, even that would be more useful in some case. It’s fine when I can collapse the title column as shown in the desktop view, but this is not possible on mobile. Another alternative would be the option to have the “name” be another type of value.
I agree! Being able to hide and/or rename (and choose the relation type) for the ‘Name’ relation would be super helpful. I like how it works in Notion because it prevents having unnecessary columns and allows you to better tweak the database for your specific needs.
This would be super helpful! Not every object needs a name. A good amount of examples where already given like a meeting note. Those are often just linked by association to a date, project and or client, but don’t need to be anything else than just a “meeting”.
I also think the ability to just hide the Name column would be best, as that would be the least intrusive way to implement.
