What Is the Widgets System?

Referencing this message from Dragos from here: Deleted Content Not Removed From Sidebar - #7 by Dragos

Im closing this issue, because we have already replaced the sidebar with the new widgets system so this bug will not be present in the near future.

Does anyone know what the widgets system is? I assume it will be for desktop, but I’m not sure what will be included.

There is no official documentation by now, because it is still in development. But some hints can be found here:

As far as I know the next townhall, which will take place before next release, will give us more insights. But for now, the devs haven’t explained in detail.

Thank you! Do you know when townhalls happen? I’ve only been part of the community since yesterday now, so, I’m still familiarizing myself with current and old information.

Happy to see tree view is happening too. I was actually looking around to see if that was suggested. My friend is curious about how that can be implemented though. She wasn’t sure it could be with how Anytype is formatted.

This was my thought on it, copying from Notion’s style.

Potential for Anytype.

They’re usually on the later part of the month. (21st onwards) They’ll post the exact date and link here under News and Announcements.

Roadmap says the sidebar is aimed at Q2, we’ll see how it goes!

I can’t give more details other than what @jannis already said. widgets are a redesign of the sidebar, giving the user more control to customize how it shows data and what data it shows. The “Widget” design pattern leaves the door open for a lot of interesting potential improvements, but for now the purpose of widgets is to allow you guys to personalize navigation to your needs.

We try to do Town-halls every 1 or 2 months, the next one is tentatively planned for April 27th.

During this event we will give a sneak-peak of new features and UI redesign, such as introduction of Personal Spaces instead of the home-screen and Sidebar Widgets for Navigation.

We will show Collections, which are a means of containing and structuring content in flexible way, more similar to traditional databases.

We will also describe the migration process from the Alpha version you’re using now, to Beta version that will include all these fancy changes, and the implementation of our new Anysync infrastructure.

As you can see, the next release is a doozy, hence the reason for being slightly out of our regular monthly release cycle.

Lots to be excited about though!

Thank you to you, Dragos, and Kerstie for the responses! The onboarding session was also a lot of help.

With the home screen being replaced, will there still be customization? I really enjoyed being able to customize my background, and once the app is more stable, I’d love to see more customization options throughout.

In any case, I am very excited! Seems like I jumped in at a very good time.

These changes will make your experience even more liberating and customizable than it is now :dove:
