Have a separate block for 16:9 &9:16 for a clean and concise formatting.
Along with the ability to add external videos such as Youtube & Instagram into the carousel.

I could use this feature to share my portfolio without taking all of the screen real estate

You might already achieve the same results with a Figma embeded block.

And that’s one of many online tool that can be embeded inside an Anytype’s object.
I bet you could embed a Figma slideshow/presentation in a loop or not. But you’ll have to learn a whole new tool for you to be able to do this. You could try and use this for free tho 
To my knowledge they recently implement it.
I don’t like the idea of using a new tool and paying a subscription for it…
No subscription needed for this use of figma.
Besides, your use case is so specific that it might never be implemented. Do you know any other PKM that does what you asking for? I don’t say it might not be usefull, I would love to use it, but we must have realistic expectations.
After pondering for a while, I’ll going to trial Figama

I don’t use any other PKM Anytype is the only PKM that aligns with my values
