After creating a URL link, the text in the URL itself is not found during search.
How To Reproduce It
create a URL link, either by using “paste as link” or Ctrl+Shift+K for (equivalent in markdown): [How to create a Python package in 2022](https://mathspp.com/blog/how-to-create-a-python-package-in-2022)
now search for “mathspp” using Ctrl+K,
no results are found
The Expected Behavior
The results should show the Page (or other object) that contains the URL link.
Additional Context
There were previous reports for the same issue and these have been marked resolved. However, the issue persists.
Currently, search in Anytype only indexes the visible text content inside an object. When a URL is inserted as a link behind text (for example [Title](``https://example.com``)), the URL itself is not included in the search index. Because of this, searching for parts of the URL (like mathspp in your example) will not return the object.
We reviewed this behavior, and for now it is not planned to change. The use case appears to be relatively rare, and similar tools such as Notion, Craft, and Linear also do not index the hidden URL in text links.
If you need the link to be searchable, a simple workaround is to include part of the URL as visible text somewhere in the object (for example in the link text or nearby text).
That said, if more people rely on searching by URL, we may revisit this in the future. Thanks again for raising it!
Search should generally be able to find content across your space, including parts of words, but there are still some edge cases where results may be missing or ranked unexpectedly.
We’re currently working on improving search overall, so feedback like this is helpful. If you notice specific cases where partial matches don’t work well, please report them in a separate bug report.
