Welcome in our community, @untech !
If you plan to use Anytype in business (I really hate to say it!) - forget it.
Maybe in one year or so, but for now it is simply not ready.
That for some reasons:
-
Believe it or not, but there are big issues with sorting data for the Creation Date.
– That’s such an impossible to accept issue that I can’t understand why the devs do at all anything else then fixing this particular problem!
But we have this issue in deed since stone age and I can’t see any little signs that it will be fixed when spaceship Enterprize already explores the galaxy.
-
Anytype can’t do any math!
– Nope, really no math at all!
It can not even count and show the number of Entries in a Collection.
We beg for it since stone age, but … -
Anytype (v0.40.27-beta) still can’t store a single zero in a number Relation.
You’ll also miss a specific Relation fur currencies. Or for other specific units.
In business you’ll need the zero. Zero and an empty relation field is not the same if you print an invoice or so. You really need explicitly the stupid dammed zero! But you can’t get it.
– We beg for it since stone age, but … -
The Relations here are not truly “relations” as known from a real database.
You can’t let data flow from one Object into an other.
Simple example:
Imagine you have customers. One Page for each of them, that stores address, phone number and so on.
Now you want to write an invoice for one of them.
You can’t somehow automatically pull his address from that person’s Page into the invoice.
– We beg for features like this since stone age, but …
Sorry to say all this! ![]()
I really love Anytype and I use it every day a lot! - Also in my small business.
But don’t believe that you’ll be happy with it in business. It simply can’t replace some other programs.
It’s version number is 0.40.something. And that says all.
– Nevertheless, don’t leave us; don’t forget Anytype at all!
It is definitely useful - even addictive!
For me it already beats OneNote with ease!
It can do a lot fancy stuff and It becomes better and better every few days.
Anytype has a huge potential to become a true star one day!
But it still needs a lot polishing, plus some basic features more then it has today.
The strange discrepancy is, that the devs in deed hear to us and our wishes. They even implement them often really fast!
But unfortunately not in every case, no matter how important it is - see the points above.
For unknown reasons the devs like it to prioritise other tasks then the really important points.
Personally I believe the problem is this:
- The programmers are only programmers. They don’t do the office work.
So they don’t know the real needs for office uses themself. - And, on the other hand, the office team members use other software for their daily work, but not Anytype.
For that reason they don’t pressurize the programmers to implement the features we self-employed businessman need.
– If we could force them all to use nothing else then Anytype for each and every thing they do in office, I’m sure we would have the needed features in no time!
So, now try it, get warm with it!
I’m sure you’ll fall in love with Anytype!
But don’t expect suitability for uses in business.
You’ll need one full month to really understand all it’s concepts.
Till then you’ll already be adicted!
And till then it has already got some updates and has become even better.
– But still not suitable for business … ![]()
