I’m delighted and impressed to see how Anytype has developed since I onboarded in 2021, and I’m making more and more use of it as a key tool.
But.
There are a couple of key missing features that prevent me from using it as my daily driver: There are already feature requests covering these; the point of this post is just to highlight my own situation and maybe generate some discussion.
The team has its roadmap and priorities, and they cam’t do everything thing at once, but there’s no harm in asking (I hope
)
Recurring objects: Repeating tasks are a critical function for me, for the way I work and plan. The overhead of creating a new task (or rescheduling the existing one) each time is painful. While I can manage non-recurring tasks in Anytype, without repeating tasks I’m forced to use another app alongside - and then I have to remember which tasks go where. As an alternative to recurring tasks in Anytype, the ability to embed data from another task manager might work - although I expect there would be barriers to associating the embedded data using relations and links
Share sheet/web clipper or equivalent: Much of what I want to do is around collecting data or snippets from emails, websites and other apps, and around turning items from other apps into Anytype objects or blocks. Examples: create a task from and email/message/chat; create an object or block from highlighted text on a web page.
There are a couple of other things that aren’t critical, but would be really helpful
**Mind -mapping:**Not easy to implement, and maybe a niche function, but I use mind maps quite a lot to sketch out early ideas. The ability to embed a map from another app would be a good compromise
**Handwriting:**I spend a lot of time on an iPad - handwritten notes work really well for me. Not that hard to copy/paste them from other apps, but the ability to do so inside Anytype would be great - especially if there was handwriting recognition too.
