Shortcut `Ctrl+Tab` (`Ctrl+Shift+Tab`) does not switch between spaces

What’s The Bug?

The keyboard shortcut does not switch between spaces, only selects the next space in the space bar and shows the name of the space, but never actually “clicks” on the space button.

How To Reproduce It

  1. Press Ctrl+Tab (or Ctrl+Shift+Tab) to switch between spaces.
  2. See that the next space is selected, its name is shown, but when releasing the shortcut, the switching operation is not invoked.

The Expected Behavior

To switch to the next space.

Additional Context

This happens whether the side bar and the spaces bar are visible or not. I think this was introduced in one of the recent alpha/beta releases which brought back the “floating” mode to the side bar (automatic hiding of the side bar), or at least one of the iterations of this. But I am not certain.

Furthermore, it seems to be a bug related to my system NixOS as this does not happen on my Arch Linux system, both running Wayland with Plasma 6 and using the AppImage. However, since all other shortcuts in NixOS work, I still consider this an issue with the side bar rather than a NixOS-specific issue. I am OK with closing this bug report if you think this not to be an issue on your end / not significant enough.

Had this problem yesterday but after refreshing it’s gone, didnt have the opportunity to debug.

I played with it for a little bit, and at least I can say that it is persistent on my system. I did some debugging. This bug was introduced in v0.41.33-beta, the bug does not exist in v0.41.27-beta. Since its introduction, it prevails among all the following releases (using bisection on the tags here, so it is just a guess that it prevails for all of them – I tested only some of them manually).

This report has been added to our issue tracker and received by the Development Team.

I am using latest git commit (not latest version) and it is working properly.

So @Adda, maybe as soon as the next alpha/beta build comes, can you re-test it?

I will not compile from source now, but I can definitely test the next version once it comes out.

Edit: This comment should be irrelevant cause I forgot I customised one of my keyboard shortcut on Mac setting.

Mistakes

Could you all try opening a new window of Anytype (cmd+n on Mac) and then open a space on the second window, then try using the keyboard shortcut again?

I believe the current functioning of ‘switch space’ is designed to work with switching windows/instances of Anytype, instead of switching space when space is not opened. In other words, the current keyboard shortcut behaves like alt+tab on Microsoft Windows…

If this is your scenario, this bug is technically by design and had occurred since the release of multi-space v.0.36.0. Sadly, I don’t think this shortcut has been actualised.

New Space Selector - sidebar / CTRL + Tab Switcher - #18 by C.c

Works fine for me with multiple windows. Alt + Tab on MacOS is Cmd + Tab, not Ctrl.

It still does not work for me in 0.42.1-alpha.

I cannot help here as there is another bug which prevents me from opening a second window (Error WalletCreateSession code: 2 description: bad input incorrect mnemonic), so I cannot confirm nor deny your hunch.

It should not be my scenario, however, since the shortcut works correctly for me in version v0.41.27-beta, but not afterwards in v0.41.33-beta and in later releases.

It does not work for you all the time?

Yeah. It is consistent. And it consistently worked in v0.41.27-beta.

I don’t understand, what keyboard do you have?

And how it does not work, nothing happens on release?

Maybe on NixOS this shortcut is system somehow?

I do not understand what are you asking about. What relevant information do you want me to give?

Upon emitting the Ctrl+Tab key combination, the following happens:

Video:
The mouse cursor is anywhere on the page. After emitting Ctrl+Tab, the space name is shown, but not changed into that space.

I do not think this is the issue. As stated above, the only difference between the shortcut working in v0.41.27-beta and not working in v0.41.33-beta and further is the Anytype version itself, the system does not change.

I see, I will find the difference from this version.

Weird… sorry @Adda, in letting you think an update would fix it.

I am kinda at a loss here, have no ideia:

using the pull request for anytype 0.42.0 in here: anytype: 0.41.1 -> 0.42.0 by r-ryantm · Pull Request #331663 · NixOS/nixpkgs · GitHub

No problem. And I still do not think this is a OS-specific issue. I am on NixOS Wayland, and Arch Wayland, the shortcuts work on both Arch Wayland (in all versions) and on NixOS Wayland with an earlier version. But everything is possible at this point.

As stated above, if this issue appears only in some very specific environment that only I seem to be able to recreate, feel free to ignore the issue and move on to the more urgent ones. I do not have a use for spaces as of now, anyway, so I do not miss this shortcut at all. Just accidentally stumbled upon it when testing some other bug.

Like I am, but instead of Wayland, I am using Xwayland. Unfortunately, chrome/electron gpu accel inst available for amdgpu’s yet (I think for intel’s, it is) and there are some issues (like drag and drop issues) here and there. (scaling “–force-device-scale-factor=” is also broken)

Since for me, Anytype is also a video player, I need that GPU hardware accel. support
