Excalidraw is great, but the window is too narrow… it will be great if full screen can be prioritized.
It was slow before (due to communication issues and a redesign of the app’s core), but now it’s coming along nicely!
Have you seen the latest release notes?
As for AI, if you’re a developer, you know that it’s far from doing all the work (especially if you want something of high quality at the end)
.
Excalidraw embeds are resized fine for 200% width objetcs but the less you make the width it becomes out of proportion, being too long for a 100% width, a resize option would be much appreciated.
Thanks. Changing layout of page is not a very elegant workaround as it changes the layout of other blocks in the page as well. Craft and Obsidian is a good reference where opening excalidraw opens/pops in fulll window.
Coming soon to a theatre near you.
Very cool!,
Will it be possible to get links working internally through the excalidraw embeds? Currently, doesn’t seem to support that.
Yessssssssss! I’m so exited, thank’s!!!
Do you mean native object links throughout your Anytype space? That’s not coming to Excalidraw.
That’s great! Regarding attaching images, will that be included?
It’s not possible at this stage, so we’ve turned off that option.
Anyteam is awesome!!! Thank you!
Dang, just know it works with the draw.io embeds Copying a deeplink and putting it on a block. Would have been nice to see it working to do everything from within Anytype, since it seems there are no plans for integrating a whiteboard/canvas. It would have made a good enough stand in. Thanks for answering.
Don’t want to be that guy but, this Will be amother cool feature not available in mobile devices?
I checked and we should be able to get it working.
This requires deeper work on middleware since images need object storage and syncing within Excalidraw.
Mobile is not as mature as desktop, so we’re prioritising other features such as kanban, tablet support, etc. While we want feature parity, it will take some time.
Roadmap Update:
Block-based reminders will not be part of the next release planned in April as we want to get it to a better and more reliable state. I understand this is disappointing for many of you, but rest-assured that we’re still actively prioritising its development. The reason for this delay is that the underlying infrastructure for reminders intersects with other features we want to deploy in the future (such as private favorites), so we want to invest now to set us up for success in the future. Sorry for this delay and appreciate the patience on this long-awaited feature.
anytype is turning to be a chat app with some PKM system feature
all next core update is chat , Message, Discussions
the system should be work well first, and than it can be use for teams and groups, but the dev team work flow “ we are going to make you talk to each other in good way first , than we will give you a usable system “
delaying the reminder is just plus one disappointment
What is essential to Anytype (and our local-first vision) is to enable collaboration, as silos and soloplayer experiences is not what the product is primarily designed for. From that standpoint, chat is a very important feature as well as discussions; additionally it also enables the (optional) usage of AI that is a heavily requested feature.
That being said, we also maintain a focus on many knowledge base features, the last release had primarily non-chat based updates. Additionally, one of the biggest upgrades we’re making in the next few months is entirely based on the knowledge base system. I don’t think it’s accurate to say Anytype is a chat app and we don’t focus on core system—but I do agree that it’s not accurate to say Anytype is a PKM app either. The goal is for it to have both and more.
To be clear, we are not ‘delaying’ reminders because we’re working on other things. It’s delayed because it’s taking longer than we anticipated. We understand that this is disappointing, which is why in the past the team rarely wanted to share explicit roadmaps (because of the likelihood of delays and disappointment). That being said, we are working on it and hopefully everybody will enjoy using them soon.
I feel disappointed too because of that next update, the focus on chats and discussions features became too much lately, are they needed? Of course they’re, are they top priority or most needed for users? Absolutely not. Users are always clear about what they need first, reminders and formulas for example are extremely needed and very frequently suggested/requested.
It’s simple as Users want X and Y, stop focusing on and implementing Z. Just align your development with what users need.
Taking Obsidian as an example, putting bases and formulas on the roadmap, starting development of, releasing and improving both took them just 2-3 months, while it’s months and years of “to be planned” on here just because the team keeps focusing their attention on much less requested features, taking into consideration their very low employee count compared to Anytype’s. They listened to what people need, made iterations and used user feedback to make the feature better.
I hear you. Reminders is the number one item listed in this next release because it’s actively being prioritised, there is not much more we can do here to prioritise it further—we can’t just throw more people at the feature and it’ll happen faster (lots of work happens in parallel). Formulas is also on the horizon as noted on the roadmap.
As a larger point, there is a difference across the community on what improvements/features they’d like to see first. It’s not as universal as it seems. That’s not to say reminders and formulas aren’t heavily request (they are), but there isn’t one universal and aligned on list of priorities. Two simple examples:
- Improvements to search is heavily complained about, I’m sure these users would rather see that first than anything else. While some users don’t use search much at all.
- AI and integrations is heavily requested from potential paid users as a dealbreaker. Without easy ways to integrate AI into their workflows, Anytype is not a viable option in their organisations. While there are many users here who have zero need for AI (and may actively oppose it).
One of the best examples of this difference in perspective really came to light with Collections 2.0 — most users who know how to use Anytype (users on this forum) see it as an annoying change and would rather us focus on other features. But our metrics shows a very different story. Who is right and wrong? Technically all perspectives have value. For those who ‘get it’, there’s no need for Collections 2.0 and its a waste of time; but for those who don’t, there’s a big need to upgrade the organisational system on Anytype.
Again, I totally hear you that it’s disappointing that reminders, formulas, and other features aren’t coming fast enough. However I want to shed light on the prioritisation. We are not actively ignoring requests or being oblivious to them; it’s that there are many perspectives that compete on strategic value to the product.
Unfortunately nothing much I can add to this. We have a lot of challenges due to our local-first infrastructure that a typical team does not. Indeed, it could just be a problem that we’re just not as competent as the Obsidian team.
Nonetheless, we are working hard on the features that we believe are necessary to Anytype’s success. And we really do appreciate everybody’s feedback that pushes the product (and us) to be better.
