WHAT DO YOU RECOMMEND

Ability to add a recurrency option to the “Due date” attribute/relation

HOW COULD IT BE DONE

As for now, at least a minimal functionality would introduce a recurring date capability:

  1. Add a Due date attribute to an object
  2. Add the ability to check a “Recurring” mark in the Due date setting mini window

  3. The Due date then should show up in the column with a little symbol indicating it’s recurring •
  4. Example setting the recurring to each Friday (7th Jul) •
  5. When today’s date passes the Due date, the task or object will show the date of the next recurrency Friday (14th Jul)

@Hexara thanks for your request but always search before posting, this looks a lot like a duplicate of Create Recurring Objects. Can you confirm?

I have checked this post before I posted my FR, the main difference between mine and theirs is the aspect, they talk about objects being re-created in an spontatneous behaviour, on the other hand I’m looking into it from the Date relation aspect where the same object is kept but its date keeps changing/updating with each time the recurrent date comes.

Could you please elaborate a bit more on that? I don’t understand how would that work exactly. Are you suggesting a relation type which is “recurring date”?

Yep, that or adding a “Recurring” checkbox in the Due date relation, when it’s checked, another Window pops up to set the frequency for that Date.

It works like that:

  1. Create an object
  2. Add a “Due date” relation to it
  3. The “Due date” option window contains a Checkbox saying “Recurring”
  4. When it’s check, you get more options like "Daily - Weekly - Every 3 days etc)
  5. Say today is 1st Jan, and you set the Due to date to be on 2nd Jan and recurring weekly
  6. On 2nd Jan, the Due date for this object automatically changes to 8th Jan
  7. On 8th Jan, the Due date changes to 15th Jan and so on

This sounds more like a “auto-shifting” date kind of feature.

If you’re talking about “recurring tasks”, you might want to give us a more detailed explanation on how would that work on a concrete level, for example:
at 6. shifting the date should wait for the task to be checked, at that point the checkbox reverts to undone state and the date shifts automatically by the amount set as “recurrency”.

If that’s what you were thinking I personally don’t really like this solution as it basically kills history and doesn’t take into consideration different use cases (like a repeating event)

It’s meant for recurring tasks that are carried on a periodic manner.

Example: Reading a book at 8 A.M everyday, why would I be concerned about when I first started reading it?

Yes, that’s exactly what I was thinking too. The history could be saved as part of the relation itself.

So again we’re talking more about some kind of “recurring date” relation, which might be implemented on top of the current date relation or as a completely new relation.

I guess being developed on top of the already existing one is better and more convenient, all Date related properties and options in one place.
