WHAT IS THE BUG
In queries/collections, some object titles are almost invisible when using dark mode on Android. Specifically, it happens in columns using properties of type “object”, eg “Linked Projects”. See screenshots attached.
HOW TO REPRODUCE IT
In the example below, I’m gonna use a Project, the Tasks type (query) and the “Linked Projects” property.
Switch to dark mode.
Create one or more Projects.
Open the Tasks query and make sure “Linked Projects” is enabled.
Create a Task.
Add the Project(s) to Linked Projects (this has to be done on Desktop; I’m not sure if this functionality is not implemented on Android or if it’s a separate bug).
Observe that object titles under Linked Projects are almost invisible.
THE EXPECTED BEHAVIOR
Object titles should be visible when using dark mode.
The much too low contrast is an all time issue in Anytype.
I don’t know if the whole team has better eye-sight then we, or somehow better screens; but seemingly they don’t get it that some of us users simply can’t recognize certain things.
On Desktop, we can solve the bigger part of this problem with the custom.css file. But it’s a lot work, and even then, it doesn’t solve everything. For example the connection lines in the Graph.
Maybe the best and simplest solution would be a contrast slider in the settings?
I remember we briefly talked about this when the background colors issue came up.
I guess, from a dev perspective, color issues are considered low priority as crashes, bug fixes and new features take most of the team’s bandwidth.
I do agree though that some of these issues are pretty impactful from a user perspective. Personally, I think background colors on Android make highlighting a fruitless effort. It has been reported multiple times by multiple people (myself included: I reported it 4 years ago), but unfortunately it hasn’t been fixed yet.
In the end it’s difficult to make everyone happy. The devs are working really hard. With time, I’m sure everything will be addressed. We just need to be really patient and zen about it. Cheers!
