When I select a line or two and try to cut it to paste it somewhere else, somehow the ENTIRE DOC and TITLE getting selected and DELETED.
I selected all of the text in the entire document and pasted it into a new document and the same thing happened when I tried to cut and paste the same section that triggered the event in the original document.
When I cut and paste some text with some of the letters in a different color, there is no problem cutting it, but when it pastes it somewhere else, some of the letters that should be in color are not.
When I cut some text where the text is set to HEADING, when it pastes it, the text is changed to the smaller TEXT size and doesn’t retain the HEADING size.

When selecting a particular sentence(s) to cut and paste somewhere else, the TITLE, ENTIRE DOC and ALL OF THE CONTENT IN IT is not also selected and deleted when the selection is CUT.
For the selection cut or copied to paste in another place exactly the same as it originally was.

AFTER DEALING WITH THIS A LOT FOR SEVERAL DAYS NOW, I THINK ALL OF THE ISSUES MAYBE DIRECTLY RELATED TO HOW ANYTYPE INTERACTS WITH APPLE MAC OS.
Specifically, I think a lot of it has to do with the Apple shortcuts for CUT, PASTE, SELECT, SELECT ALL, etc. are not mapped correctly in Anytype because if I use the cut, paste, etc. from the Anytype menus to the left of the text, I don’t have the problems, but if I use the Apple short-cuts / hot keys such as SELECTING TEXT, especially CONTROL X to cut, CONTROL V to paste, that’s when the problems happen.
I’ve run into numerous situations where when I try to select text, Anytype will instead select additional text that I didn’t select or it will select the ENTIRE DOC and delete all of the text in the entire doc in one go.
Whenever I try to select a few lines to cut or to change the color, etc., a lot of times it will highlight more than just the lines or text that I selected.
It seems like it’s gotten MUCH WORSE recently, possibly because of a recent upgrade perhaps? I’ve been using Anytype for several months now and none of these problems were happening until recently.
It is happening across multiple docs, but I don’t know about other TYPES of objects because I’m only using Anytype as a writing tool. I don’t use it for tasks, etc. yet.
I only have / use one channel because I tried adding other channels and moving objects / pages / docs that I had created to them, but found that I cannot move PAGES OBJECTS to the other channels by dragging and dropping and haven’t found any documentation in HELP on how to move objects / pages / docs in one channel to another channel. Dragging and dropping doesn’t work on my desktop app.
yes, it happens after restarts. i’ve also restarted and shut down my macbook pro M3 and the problems are still happening. the problems happen intermittently / randomly though, not every single time.
ONE MORE ISSUE TO ADD…today I’ve run into issues when I tried to select several blocks of text, copy them and then paste them into another object / page / doc. Nothing seems to work.
I tried selecting the text then use CONTROL C and then CONTROL V to page it into another open doc and nothing happened.
I then tried selecting the text again and using the COPY command from the right click menu but that didn’t work either.
I ended up having to select a few sentences at a time and copy and paste them to the new doc which worked but was not ideal.
I’m sharing all of these things to help you pinpoint the problems and issues and solve them. Anytype is an INCREDIBLE app and one of the very few in the writing app space with TRUE local storage and incredible privacy features. So, if you have any questions or need help troubleshooting, I’m more than happy to help.
Here is a video example of the issue where selecting text using standard MacOS hot-keys / shortcuts results in Anytype selecting all of the text in the entire doc. I double-clicked on a line of text to select it. I then held down the SHIFT key and clicked at the end of the line right below it to select that line as well. You can see where Anytype then selected ALL of the text in the entire page / doc.
This is rather strange. We can’t seem to reproduce these issues that you’re showing and we have no other reports of such severity of issues. While copy/cut/paste certainly has had issues in the paste, you seem to be having a wide range of issues.
I assume that you have no changed your keyboard shortcut mapping on either macOS or on Anytype itself?
You cannot drag and drop objects between channels, they are their own encrypted containers and require proper import/export at this time. If you could create another channel to see if this issue persists in that channel, that’d be helpful.
Do you have your vault backed up (and on another device like mobile) with the key properly saved? Then one last thing we could try is to do a fresh install of Anytype.
Here’s the same behaviour on macOS, but can’t seem to reproduce your issue.
For the content in these objects, are they created natively (typed in)? Or were they imported/copied from elsewhere and added to it? Sometimes it depends on the formatting of imports that can cause this issue.
Odd that you can’t reproduce ANY of the issues I’m experiencing or have sent you videos of because they’re happening all over the place now and worse to the point that I almost cannot trust or use Anytype at this point. In addition to the items I reported, now when I try to select, cut and paste some text from one page / doc / object to another one, it now sometimes copies and pastes the ENTIRE CONTENTS of the page / doc / object.
Also, I notice that someone else reported a very similar situation as what I’m reporting for Macs, but on the Windows platform in the past few days as well in the post entitled Multiple Editing Bugs On Windows.

I have no idea how to change the keyboard shortcut mapping on either my Mac or in Anytype, so no, I haven’t changed them.
Noted on dragging and dropping to another channels. I’m not sure I understand why that cannot be done and why anyone would want two completely separate channels in a writing app. I have different work spaces in ClickUp and other apps and can drag and drop between them without any problems. I will try to create another channel and see if I experience the same problems and will let you know, but if I can’t drag and drop docs from my current channel to the new one, then that means I’m going to have to export / import everything from one to the other.
I’m new with Anytype, so bear with me…is a “vault” and a “channel” the same thing or different? If different, then how do you back up a vault? I only see where you can backup a channel or individual pages. I started doing backups as soon as Anytype started deleting the entire contents of docs.
The content was all typed in, not imports from any other apps.
Any info, estimate or timeframe as to when the complete rewrite of Anytype that you mentioned will be released? If the new channel and / or new install doesn’t work or has the same problems afterwards, then what?
@RVK did you try to reload the Anytype window?
(I believe the shortcut on Mac is the apple key plus R), otherwise do it from the menu.
Anytype can show some strange behaviors if it runs for too long and is heavily used.
Normally, a simple reload solves that.
And no, such strange behaviors does not cause issues with the data integrity – normally.
If I use Anytype a lot, I reload the window up to three times a day. I do that as soon as I have the feeling that something is odd, because the issues intensify over time, if ignored.
Every channel is an isolated container. There is this separation because you may have personal channel for all your private notes, a family one that you share with your partner, and a work one.
The reason why dragging and dropping between the channels is not so simple is because each channel has different types/settings, which can conflict between the objects being moved. Admittedly, we could make the experience better, but it’ll never be as simple as moving one file from one folder to another.
Uninstall Anytype
Reinstall it.
Create a completely new account/vault.
Try it out and see if the issue persists.
This will help us to narrow down what the issue could be. We will share more on the editor 2.0, etc. at the next town hall.
Noted. i created a new channel as you suggested, imported just one of my page objects into it but the same cut and paste issues are happening, especially the one where i select just a line or two of text to cut and paste somewhere else in the doc but then Anytype selects the entire contents of the doc. i can tell because all of the text and even the spaces between blocks is highlighted in light blue as opposed to just the lines i selected. so creating a new channel did not solve the problems.
to uninstall and reinstall, i need to backup all my page objects, which i realize i can do in one go for the entire channel and have done that, but i’m also exporting each page as a PDF just in case the reinstall doesn’t work either. this method is more time consuming. i will also need to go in and delete all the Anytype files from the MacOS library, etc. to make sure it’s a true clean re-install. for the reinstall, i will create a couple of new test pages to see if the issues are still happening before importing all of the pages i created with the version with the issues. i will update when i’ve completed everything. hopefully the clean re-install will solve all the problems. i appreciate all the support (and patience).
@Code-Jack thanks for this suggestion. no, i have not tried that, but definitely will because i am keeping 3-4 docs open for making notes on several ongoing projects and updating them constantly all day long , so you could be right. i have to do that with ClickUp if I use it too long. thanks for the suggestion!
