In the history for the new v0.42.31-beta is this entry:
“Potentially harmful URLs have a warning before opening them.”

– I’m alarmed again about what that means …
Which instance tests my links if they are “harmful”?
Is it some external “security service”? :-/
If yes: does this service also see my IP address?

And when exactly is it tested?
If we click the link?
Or (again) if we simply hover the mouse over it?

I remind you of the following thread.

The privacy problem with it (which I see, but the team unfortunately doesn’t want to see) still exists.
And now apparently another function of this kind is being added?

– If that’s true, then I need to convert all my links into plain text and am forced to use the clipboard every time when I want to open a website. :frowning:

All links to local file system are considered harmful and have potential security risk.

The history speaks about “URL”. Not about “URI”.
An URL means normally a web address, not a link to a local file.

That was my question …

What I was afraid of was that a URL that I hover over (or click on) would automatically be sent to a service on the Internet that would perform this check.
This seems not to be the case as your question indicates.

So, when does the warning come, about the entry in the history speaks?

  • … or if we click …
  • … on either a weblink …
  • … or on a link to a local file?
