Positive feedback: things I love in AnyType

I’ve noticed a number of very negative feedbacks lately, which sometimes have the merit of pointing out a number of problems, but to balance things out I’d like to offer my sincere congratulations to the team for all the progress they’ve already made. And to be more concrete, here’s a list of things I love about AnyType:

  • The design: that was love at first sight. The learning curve was steep, but the desktop application was so beautiful that I was hooked.

  • The speed: coming from Notion, I was amazed by how reactive the app was, on both PC and Android. Now it became a reflex: any thought goes to anytype, as it takes only a few sec to create a new page on any device

  • The graph: the first time I dragged an object and saw the graph smoothly reorganizing around, I was hypnotized. It is fascinating to see it grow and interconnect like a living organism.

  • The widgets: finally an app that lets you control the content of the sidebard, instead of a file tree. It opens a new dimension.

  • The object-oriented framework: so satisfying. I was so frustated with the everything-is-a-page approach from other softwares.

  • The privacy: I feel confident to dump all thoughts and personal info as I know everything is encrypted.

  • The sync protocol: never had any issue so far. I even had fun modifying a note on my phone and watching it updating almost instantly on my PC. Bonus : it’s free !!

  • Local first: abroad, in the plane, underground, I can still access my data and create new objects. Makes me remember when I lost 4h of work with Notion, due an instable connection.

  • The community: seeing how frequently the team directly answers on the forum is simply amazing.

I used and still use AnyType to:

  • Manage all my research projects (I’m a researcher). Kanban view is my best friend.
  • Manage all my machines (IP, specs, etc)
  • Organize my knowledge (bookmarks, notes on technical subjects, etc)
  • Prepare my lectures
  • Quick note all my ideas and link them to projects
  • Plan my trips (my honeymoon says thanks you!)
  • Handle all my check-lists (never forgot to pack anything ever since)
  • Personal admin (taxes, childcare, etc)
  • Draft this post

I’m aware I’m not making much headway with these returns, but I think the AnyTeam deserves to be encouraged :rocket:!

Yes, I know there’s still a lot to improve and refine, but I’ll leave that to others. Let’s celebrate once in a while

Thank you! We are in dire need of positive feedbacks!
I agree with everything.
I manage my work tasks, my personal todos and private affairs. Vacations, study… keep my documents in order…
It’s my daily companion and i love it!

I absolutely fucking LOVE that “network” of things i can create – linking wines to people, dates, etc, creating bookmarks as objects and adding prices, locations, etc. to them, INSANE!!

SO FUCKING COOL.

I am a huge fan.

@telmob – if you want positive feedback, just ask me. I have plenty when it comes to the product. I do have some remarks regarding non-technical / non-product issues

(UPDATE: forgot “Local first” – Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes!!)

YES!!! Anytype’s Local-first is freaking awesome!
Love Anytype!

This is very nice of you! For me, what comes to mind is:

  • The object approach
    • I can ‘include’ a page in multiple locations
    • I can create my own wikis and databases and incorporate it seamlessly in journals, tasks, projects, etc.
    • It’s like having a private website / second brain
  • Relations and links
    • Control over how I connect and present information.
    • Data that you can carry over and highlight (or hide) when necessary.
  • Overall design and layout flexibility
    • Customization is key.
  • Security and responsibility over your own data
    • I feel better knowing my private stuff is no longer stored in various cloud-based apps. It has its drawbacks — like doing your own backups — but I’m ok with that, as long as I get to keep and store my digital possessions.
    • Other companies can’t block/filter/control my posts or use it to train AI.
  • Free software
    • Friendly to beginners and solo users.
    • Does not gatekeep basic features or put you on ‘trial mode’ without your knowledge.
  • Local and offline-first
    • My note-writing experience has been easier ever since I stopped worrying about the status of my connection while writing notes.
    • I can quickly access important info on my phone while on the go. (I used to panic and wait for N_tion and E_ernote to load seldomly accessed pages.)
  • Town-Hall Meetings
    • I feel like I’m watching something good unfold every meeting. Maybe even be a part of its journey. It makes me more appreciative of their progress, and more patient/understanding when a much awaited feature is not yet coming my way.

Thank you for your kind words. We’re working day and night to make our software better. Posts like yours are deeply inspirational for our team and make us genuinely happy. We hope you’ll enjoy the next three releases—I’m personally very excited about them!

I agree with all of these points. The negative feedback has been a bummer, so I’m glad someone acknowledged it and was inspired to remind us of all the positive aspects of Anytype.

I’ve enjoyed seeing the evolution of Anytype. I’ll never forget the high I got from switching from the Alpha to the Beta version. It was because of the hard work and dedication of the Any Team. Thank you for creating and continually working on a product that embodies our shared values.

Here’s to many more big updates and highs!

A lot has already been said, but adding a few more things. I love:

  • The Anytype team (how responsive, caring, open, and honest they are)
  • The clean, decluttered UX
  • The flexible and customizable sidebar and the widgets
  • End-to-end encryption!!!
  • Local-first!!!
  • The Anytype team
  • The import system for Notion, which is sooo smooth
  • The sharing and collaboration features (in addition to 2 personal spaces, I have a space with my wife, another space with my brother, and I’m hoping to invite my work team in the next 6 months)
  • How we can add relations to the canvas of an object
  • The Anytype team
  • The ability to export in Anyblock or Markdown, and to decide whether to include files (I backup my spaces without files every week, and with files every month)
  • Lists and smart lists (those who know know ), and how flexible and powerful they are

What I love and hasn’t been mentioned yet:
Custom CSS!
Browseable image gallery!
Nicely embedded PDFs!

I would complement. “Nicely embedded… bunch of stuff!” Lot’s of things are very well embedded in Anytype. Even YouTube videos.

@raph you need to enlighten me about those ‘smart lists’. (pretty please with sugar on top)

What’s in store for the next three releases? :eyes:

Very interesting

I’m going to chime in here. I started using Anytype around June. Just stumbled across it and thought “This looks interesting”.

A few months later, and it’s basically my life OS. It’s the central hub for my library, movies & tv shows, my blog posts, photography portfolio, my original artwork database, project manager, todo list, home inventory (with manuals and instructions), areas of interest, bucket list… plus, I use a separate space to run my business too. I would like to move my journal to Anytype (currently using Diarium), but don’t feel it’s quite there yet in terms of functionality.

But beyond those uses, Anytype is such an amazing tool for thought. I love being able to capture things and link them to an existing page. I know then that I’ll be able to find stuff again when I need it without having to go through stacks of folders. Search too is really good (would be nice to have an advanced search with filters). I leave little callouts as notes to self so that when I’m browsing, I’m reminding myself why I’ve saved stuff, or how best to organise a page.

Can’t really evangelise Anytype enough with this short post other than saying two words: GAME CHANGER
