Phone Heats Up Only With Anytype

What do you need help with?

I started using Anytype last week and really love it, but whenever I use it on my iPhone 17, my phone gets hot. It’s the only app it seems to happen with. I’ve turned off all Apple AI and background refresh, but it’s still happening. I’d like to continue using Anytype, but not if it keeps causing my phone to heat up so much and so quickly. Has anyone else had this issue? If so, how did you fix it? Thank you.

Additional Context

I’m on an iphone 17 running iOS 26.5.1

OS

Howdy, yes we’re aware of this issue and it’s tricky to diagnose because it seems to happen across various scenarios:

  1. Cold start—when you are opening the app and syncing for the first time. This is especially the case if you’re part of a space that has thousands of objects.
  2. Under powered devices—this usually exacerbates the above issue.
  3. Sync getting stuck—when objects in a space aren’t syncing properly.
  4. Editing—although unclear on specifics, some users had trouble with phone heat when making edits.

Some users have reported resolving this via turning the phone on low power mode, although we understand this isn’t a good solution. We have been making optimisations, some big ones of late, but we still require a bit more testing to see how much that has affected phone heating/battery.

It happens first big space/channel sync process. Then the heating problem ends. For example, the phone of a person joining the official Anytype chat channel will catch fire until the first synchronization is over.

Android, Google Pixel 7, v0.47.x

I can also observe this on my iPhone 16 Pro Max whenever one of my Macs is online on the same network. They then enter a kind of real-time sync mode, which causes my phone to heat up.

Just to be clear, you mean on Anytype Network or self-hosted? Or maybe you’re referring to wifi?

I also faced this issue on my iPhone 17, but not on my iPhone 13 Pro.
Battery drainage was insane.
