Paste URL without Paste as popup

WHAT DO YOU RECOMMEND?

Possibility to paste URLs immediately with predefined style without the popup window with options. I believe most users have the primary/default style of pasting URLs, so this popup is mostly not needed:

HOW COULD IT BE DONE?

New settings:

  1. Pasting URLs: Paste as popup window OR Fixed style?
  2. Fixed/preferred style: (as URL, as Bookmark, as Plain Text)

REAL WORLD USE CASES

I copy a lot of URLs into AnyType Pages in my use case and I paste URLs solely as URL (“as link” in previous AnyType versions). I am not using Bookmarks type or Plain-text. The popup asking me how I want to paste the URL slows me down and annoys me.

I understand that AnyType wants to please all users with different use cases with that popup option. That’s why I recommend these new options in settings and/or keyboard shortcuts (down in Alternatives), so all user/use cases would be satisfied.

RECOMMENDED ALTERNATIVES

Alternative for Desktops (no new settings needed):

  1. Ctrl+V - paste immediately with last used style without popup
  2. Ctrl+Shift+V - popup with Paste as options shows up

ADDITIONAL CONTEXT

Thank you for your suggestion. It’s been added to our tracker and will be reviewed.

I’m also not happy with the way it works.
But (in contrast to your request) I always want the popup, because I paste evenly often:

  1. As Embed (YT-Links)
  2. As Link
  3. As text (yes, I often paste URLs as plain text for a good reason)

I don’t like the relative new dynamical behavior of the popup that remembers the last action. Because it forces me always to look where the desired option actually is.

I repeat my request to allow the user to manually reorder the order of the entries in the popup list!

In your case @GTX the way to work would be to press Enter after Ctrl + v (because your preferred option is on top). Not a big deal to press Enter, isn’t it?

And in my own case, I would always know if Enter alone does the job, or (if not) how often I need to hit the arrow down key before enter, to get the desired result.
At the moment it happens often to me that I’ve accidentally triggered the wrong pasting operation, because the entries in the popup have no fixed position. That sucks!

The old behavior, before the dynamical behavior came, was better.
The devs did here implement a new kind of friction. – I have foreseen exactly that and warned before they did it, but they went ahead and did it anyway :frowning:

A modern UI allows the user to rearrange things like buttons as he wants (at least to a certain degree).
Why can’t Anytype do the same?
I think that configuration parameters always belong into a configuration file that the user can modify in a text editor. This would end nearly all these discussions about things like that, or about colors and contrasts and so on.

I have no issues with the popup. It provides the flexibility to handle URLs based on the task. Honestly, the popup is the least of my concerns compared to the various UI inconsistencies elsewhere.

To keep it versatile while addressing the friction, I’d suggest adding a “Never ask again” checkbox—a de facto UX standard. Thoughts?

A bead suggestion. Because, as I already wrote, I paste similar often as Embed, as Link and as Plain Text.
A “Never ask me again” checkbox is clearly not useful for me.

The only of the different popup options that I barely ever use is “Bookmark”, because the BM Object is in my opinion the most useless thing.
