Creating a note in a collection, tagging it to something else, then unlinking it from the collection makes the note completely disappear, it’s not in the bin, it’s not just an unlinked note, searching for it brings up nothing, it just doesn’t exist anymore…
HOW TO REPRODUCE IT
Have a collection
Create a note in that collection
Tag it to something else via a property
Unlink the note from the collection
The note no longer exits, it’s not attached to the object any more
I’ve opened multiple windows and watched the note get “deleted” from an object when I unlink it from the original collection.
THE EXPECTED BEHAVIOR
Unlinking something from collection shouldn’t stealth delete the entire thing with no trace of it’s existence, the object should still exist.
ADDITIONAL CONTEXT
This actually makes the entire Anytype product 100% unusable. I’m not sure I can ever trust Anytype with sensitive data if it can get erased like this so easily with no way of retrieving the data. I’ve honestly never seen anything this bad in my life. I’ve likely already lost data because of this…
Hi, when you then go to ‘recently edited’ in the left side bar, you should see it. Or go to ‘types’ in the left side bar, select the object type and you should see it in the list of objects of that type. Sort accordingly if required.
I tried doing what you mentioned, on version 0.55.3 and the note does disappear when unlinked from collection, but it goes into the Bin. Can you make a video showing the note disappearing and an empty Bin? Maybe this is another bug (and a huge bug, of notes disappearing without going first to the Bin)
I already explained it clearly. When I unlink a note from a collection, it doesn’t go to the bin — it completely disappears. I tested it multiple times with multiple windows open, and the bin was empty.
I’ve been an alpha user for a long time. I’m not recording a video of my desktop to prove basic data loss. If that’s not enough for you, that’s your problem, not mine.
This bug alone makes AnyType unusable for me. I’m already migrating to something more reliable.
As a note-taking application, data preservation should be the top priority (even if there are functional bugs). Bugs can be fixed over time, but once data is lost, it cannot be recovered.
I encountered the same issue as you in the latest 0.55.3 stable version. Fortunately, I also had another device with Anytype installed that hadn’t been opened or synced for a while. I didn’t dare connect it to the internet, worried that syncing might cause the notes to disappear. I then carefully compared everything and retyped the notes word by word. However, the changes made between that device’s last state and now were lost.
It took me an entire evening to recover this data..
Tested this and can reproduce it, albeit, I could find the respecive object in the Bin. If it is also missing in the Bin as reported in this case, this truely would be a problem. @mordan , this could be serious, please report this to the dev team.
