Line selector into Collection 2.0

WHAT DO YOU RECOMMEND?

  • Add a “select all” into a collection/query. As noted by @Code-Jack , we can use CTRL + a but not all users are familiar with it, or prefer an interface that supports it (and even those who are familiar with it sometimes have memory lapses ^^)
  • It also lacks the ability to select objects one by one (to edit, delete, etc) only the desired lines, which do not necessarily follow one another

Can you add it to Collection 2.0?

HOW COULD IT BE DONE?

  • A checkbox at the top that appears on hover and allows you to select everything, plus the same checkbox on each row to mark the selected rows (and thus also allow you to select them one by one manually). Just like in Notion

REAL WORLD USE CASES

Quite simply, when you want to delete thousands of lines, it’s incredibly tedious to have to select everything with the mouse (especially since the scroll bar moves in jerks and you sometimes lose the selection before you’re done, so you have to start over several times).

I’ve had to clean up a space several times this weekend and this week. Every time, I waste a ton of time! And now, I’ve been at it again for a while, and it’s driving me crazy.
It’s worth noting that an option to clear a space would be very, very useful… I think I requested this a long time ago.

Edit : Oh right, I completely forgot about CTRL+A, which I know and use everywhere. Still, a user interface that makes it easier to see how to select everything would improve the user experience.
I’ve tweaked the request a bit.

Ctrl + a does already select all entries in a Collection.
Then press “delete” and everything is gone.

:face_with_peeking_eye:
Oh my gosh, how could I have forgotten something so basic!

Actually, at first I only wanted to select certain elements, but the lack of a simple selection option at that level threw me off.
And when I wanted to delete everything, I stuck with my “mouse-based” approach.
Thanks for the reminder !

I’ll switch to selecting elements one by one.

Ah, and CTRL + a select only 500 lines (yes, I delete the content of a space, again ^^).

Just to clarify a couple of things mentioned in the thread:

  • You can currently select items in a collection using Ctrl + A, but it only selects the items that are currently loaded, which explains why it didn’t work when trying to clean an entire space.

  • You can also select items one by one by holding Ctrl and clicking them.

That said, the main issue here is that selection is not visible or discoverable in the UI, and becomes difficult to use at scale.

So this is less about adding a completely new capability, and more about improving how selection works in collections.

Your suggestion with checkboxes (both per row and in the header) makes a lot of sense and would make it much easier to:

  • understand how selection works

  • select items more reliably

  • perform bulk actions without relying on keyboard shortcuts

We’ve added this to our tracker for Collections 2.0.
