Laggy on pages with many blocks

WHAT IS THE BUG

Anytype becomes very laggy when going through pages with many blocks. I scroll at 5fps and edits take ~150ms to register. Its quite painful. This happens on my mac and not on my android phone nor my windows computer where everything runs smoothly on the same documents.

HOW TO REPRODUCE IT

Outline the steps needed to reproduce the behavior in sequence:

  1. Create a page with titles (>15), text (>150 blocks) and nested bullet points (>60)

  2. Scroll and edit to feel the lag

THE EXPECTED BEHAVIOR

Be as smooth as on android.

TECHNICAL INFORMATION

Desktop: Intel 2019 with MacOS 15.4.1 and AnyType 0.55.5

Thanks for reporting this. Testing on M1+ macOS does not reveal any severe lag, but it could be the case on older devices running Intel. Do you mind sharing a screen recording so we can see what it’s looking like at your end?

Hey, Thank you for your answer. Hopefully the video renders ok.

Its tricky to record the keyboard inputs so I can’t really show the input laggyness but its the same principle.

And the video has been taken with v0.56.1 as I just did the update. So not fixed

Did you experience lag on your Mac prior to the latest release (this was always an issue)? Or is this lag specific to this release?

Edit: I see now that you experienced this issue on both past and present releases. This certainly makes it lean towards it being a device-specific challenge, as we typically don’t have smooth scrolling issues at 150 blocks for other Mac users. We can try to make further optimisations in future releases, hopefully that well improve the experience on your Mac.

Hi @Idal ,

your technical information contains the information that you are on version 0.55.5.

Did you try the latest version 0.56.x as smoother scrolling was something that has been improved.

@Idal as @Ronsox already mentioned, please update to the actual version.

I’m not on Mac, but on Windows. And I can tell that the latest version is MUCH less laggy on Pages with many elements.

For example: I have a Page with 3000 (or was it even 6000?) Toggles, each with a web link inside plus sometimes a line of text.
The Page was half-automatic generated by a script that brought me the content as Markdown, ready to paste in Anytype (it took AGES to past such a large amount of data!).
The resulting Page was de facto not usable before the update – WAY too laggy to do anything with it!
But since then, although it is still relatively slow, it’s maybe 10 or even 20 times faster. The difference is huge! The Page is finally usable.

Yes as I said the video was taken with v0.56.1.
