Kanban: Easier setup with automatic templates and scoped properties

WHAT DO YOU RECOMMEND?

For ordinary users who are not very skilled in customization and who don’t have much time it would be very helpful if the Kanban view (and possibly other views of collections) would have a simple out-of-the-box setup, which could cover the majority of use cases. It could be opt-in with some kind of wizard, or it is just created and advanced users will know how to remove what they don’t need.

Notable characteristics:

  • A basic template should be created as default that initially has all properties of this collection (e.g. in a dedicated area below the header). Any later added property in this collection should be added here. The user can delete them again from the template.
  • Properties from outside the collection should not appear with the same priority. Currently, it is very confusing when you add a “status” or “tags” to the collection and then in the page or template info you first see statuses and tags that belong to other objects.
  • Ready for use in a matter of seconds.

HOW COULD IT BE DONE?

Maybe a question with a button on top of a fresh Kanban view, “Do you want to create an automatic template for this view?” It could also appear in the collection menu, if no automatic template exists yet.

REAL WORLD USE CASES

This would be used by people who want to get started with a few clicks without having to study the documentation and build the template, without risking to mess up a default object type, an unrelated property and the like.

RECOMMENDED ALTERNATIVES

The alternative is to figure out how to do it manually, but apart from the time requirements you also risk missing useful information. Many users probably don’t even take the trouble if they are used to easier solutions from somewhere else.

ADDITIONAL CONTEXT

nope

Thanks for this suggestion.

Yes, this is something we’ve already outlined and have planned (part of Collections 2.0). They are effectively Collection Presets/Templates and would work very similarly to how you described.
