Joplin Migration or Import

WHAT I RECOMMEND

AnyType should make it easy to import Joplin notes.
The optimum solution would be a specific import feature. Failing that, and at a minimum, AnyType should ensure that its planned generic Markdown import is tested and works well with Joplin’s Markdown exports.

HOW COULD IT BE DONE

It should be possible to develop an import or migration feature based on one of Joplin’s existing export formats:

  • Markdown
  • Markdown + Front Matter
  • Joplin Export File (.JEX)
  • Joplin Export Directory (.RAW)
  • HTML Directory
  • PDF

REAL WORLD USE CASES

Joplin is a secure, self-hosted, cross platform, Markdown-based note taking application that satisfies the needs of many users. However it has a fairly small user base and development is slow and partly reliant on independent plugins. Its interface is nowhere near as well developed as AnyType or Notion’s and, crucially, it has no database features.

RECOMMENDED ALTERNATIVES

Without a proper import or migration feature, users migrating will have a lot of work to do in moving their notes. This ‘friction’ will present Joplin users, seeking the richer features and better interface of AnyType, with a barrier to AnyType take-up.

ADDITIONAL CONTEXT

From reading the Joplin forums, I know that there are users who would use an easy migration path into AnyType if it was available.

Thank you, Nick!
We plan to do some import updates including .md files. I will keep you posted.

I’ve been having Joplin sync issues out of nowhere lately so this would be the perfect feature to move everything into Anytype!
