 I believe these widget redesigns will be part of the scope of ‘Tag as an Object’ in S3 (post-multiplayer), but my colleagues are very much invited to correct me if I’m wrong here.

Hi I have a question: is there anything stopping the Anytype organization from being purchased and closing source i.e. 5 years from now?

Hi! I am so happy to hear about all the new features, like collaborations, that the Anyteam has plans to implement. That chat feature is another world on it’s own :star_struck:.

While watching the town hall, as always happens, a question came to mind. Please, anyone  wink: help me answer this questions if possible.

So, the Q is,

  • Will only the “tags” be treated as objects, or will all relations eventually be treated as objects?
    • I ask this because I want all my relationships, like multi-select, to show up in the graph. And, as far as I understand, being treated as an object will allow the relations to show up in the graph.
    • As an example, I have a multi-select relation called genre. This relation has options like action, fantasy, documentary, etc. and I use this relation on movies, books, etc all kinds of media that I consume. I would like to see all shows, movies, books with the fantasy option connected through this genre relation in the graph.
      hope that was clear.

Thanks again. Good-day.

Comments Vs Chat

My question is why chat and not a collaborative comment option? Every organization uses a chat application like Teams or Slack. What we massively use in services like Figma or in project software are comments on specific points, which shows exactly which place of the overall project is commented.

Does the chat app include the ability to bookmark the specific location of the project being commented on?

Separately, the chat applications I mentioned above are integrated into the overall corporate environment.

For small teams in small companies or startups, free products or chat clients are used.

My second question is: won’t the functionality of the chat clients be duplicated and, in the end, only one is used, and the one in Anytype is dropped?

Don’t get me wrong, my concern is that a full-featured chat client integrated into Anytype could take up a lot of development time to go to something that doesn’t solve any significant problem for Anytype customers/users. And this to postpone important functionalities that would really contribute to the promotion of Anytype.

Hello! Thank you for the great questions.

We interviewed our power users and discovered that comments are an essential feature for multiplayer functionality. Therefore, we could simply implement comments as other software products do. However, we went deeper and realized that for those who use Slack and other chat apps, there’s a problem with discussions happening out of context. You work in one app and discuss in another, often losing discussions in the depths of a messenger. Moreover, there is no native and fast way to navigate this issue.

Here is insightful research about what is wrong with chats: Roam Research – A note taking tool for networked thought.

We believe we have found an elegant solution to this problem. The method we propose will allow you to have a graph of discussions linked to other objects, ensuring you can always stay in context during discussions. You will be able to discuss a block, an object, or another discussion. You will also be able to see all discussions linked to this block or object, or all objects mentioned in this discussion.

Implementing this feature will require a bit more resources, but not significantly more than if we were simply implementing comments. We are not planning to develop a standalone chat app but rather to enhance our current engine with a new object layout for chats.

This demonstrates the beauty of graph-based architecture, and we hope it will solve the problem many of our testers have reported and that we have experienced ourselves using Slack.

Curious

Hey! We have this in plans, we start with object and tag as an object, later we are going to implement a relation as an object t

We are discussing, from opposite perspectives, how to make our app MIT-licensed by setting a timer (e.g., 5 years).”

It would be hard to sell the organisation which is building anytype as it has a form of association which does not have shareholders.

I think the biggest risk is if we do not receive enough material support from our members (customers) to continue development.

To reach self-sustainability, we need to acquire 40,000 customers in the next two years, which seems very achievable.

Anyway, we plan to be very transparent about this with our community, sharing where we are in this journey.

Thank you! Sound reasonable. Let’s see.

Thanks! That sounds awesomeđŸ€©. I will be happily waiting for the features to come out.
Happy and healthy day to everyone.
