Making her use Anytype had been a secret goal of mine for some months now.
So I jumped on the opportunity as we were starting to consider taking another cat and finding the best breeder possible.
As she was browsing through all the websites and sharing her thoughts, I created a new space on Anytype:)
I marshalled all of the infos we harnessed and typed it all into the Anytype space.
I paid attention to her langage I translated it the best I could into properties and types.
Now we have a dedicated Anytype space that is our go to space to classify and get a quick overview of where we’re at on this particular project.
She created a few properties so far but I can’t wait to see where this is going to take us.
Ps : I convinced that once she’ll get her mind wrapped around it she’ll tell me how to use Anytype

I’m sure we are all just throwing silly jokes and banter amongst each other here, and ultimately we are all happy about the outcome @Henri, whoever she is!
absolutely, I try to get a close friend away from Standard Notes (that is essentially deprecated by now) for ages. this is an elephant of a task and I’m glad that the OP made something possible what I am unable to achieve.
She had to many notes (my wife) on this project and crossing information was becoming tedious, that’s when I seized the opportunity to display her informations using her phasing in a very pleasing way.
Also she noticed I became more interested than ever and it triggered her curiosity I think
We already have some common tools (and each time I convert her to the next one): Evernote then Notion.
She’s interested in the self-hosted, e2ee, etc. aspects, so she keeps an eye on things (she reads my posts here ).
But migrating now would mean losing a lot (mostly formulas, from memory, I will update if she corrects me) without gaining any truly unique features (I came for the widgets, she would be interested in the online properties if they ever happen).
Another member of the family will need improvements on Android I think (and that we all migrate together).
A friend who still uses Evernote would like tags in a widget (he’s not a heavy user, so I’m not sure if even that would convince him to switch, but anyway…).
And for many, it’s the minor UX flaws that put them off (the least tech-savvy audience).
Everyone has their own needs and level of familiarity with this type of tool, so it’s not easy to convince them!
So while I had converted a lot my friends and family to Evernote, then to Notion (more difficult and fewer converts), Anytype has scored zero points so far.
But actually, that includes me. It’ll happen!
It tends to put people off and sometimes myself included.
For example I still tend to use Google Keep when I have to take note “under pressure”/in non familiar contexts.
I still not yet fully commited to using only Anytype which makes things a bit complicated at times.
This being said I love the fact that (most of) the application works offline.
Love also the idea of my notes not going to the damn cloud (always felt weird).
I feel proud because I recently got an idea to have my wife use more of Anytype :
Because she likes comparing things (reason why I created a shared space in the first place), I created a “Comparing” space.
Now wether it be picking a moving company, deciding which product to buy, which whatever I’m hoping Anytype will soon feel like a natural place to lay out and compare things.
Her feedback so far was that Anytype is great but feels “heavy” : Lots of configuration (on my hand lol) and kind of an overkill when you can glance at things on a regular note.
So this grouping of things could be (maybe) a game changer :
Things to compare = create a new type
There are some common traits (= properties) to any things you would compare (price, ratings, contact info, likelihood…)
So let’s hope that one works
Again, my main idea behind having her use it is that I’m sure she will have smart ideas on how to use it once she gets it.

Personally, I find Anytype’s user interface quite sleek. The editor, the image display, the views of queries and collections – I find it all clean, clear, and appealing, and I definitely have aesthetic demands. And if I don’t like something, I can correct it for my purposes with custom CSS.
Which applications do you compare Anytype to?
I might have not picked my words in the most appropriate manner.
I concur with you : I love the design and experience of Anytype.
However, I can relate to some tiny friction which may repel the not so enthusiastic/beginners.
Custom css sounds cool.
Can you do it for mobile app?
Not comparing to any other app specifically.
Maybe I’ll build a list of examples to show what I mean
Congrats @Henri ! I’m hoping to convince my husband and kids to use Anytype with the new release of chats, but I will wait until the mobile version is released next week.
It has been a not-so-secret goal of mine to convert my Google-dependent family.
Yes it’s more that , I like the global design (even though I don’t understand the latest changes), it’s beautiful.
My subscription ended last month, so I migrated (not to Anytype). I think I was the last one (except for a few people at work, where it’s still super effective for their use case).
I miss the super-fast note-taking on Android.
And the biggest loss is the simple tables: now I do that on Google Calc, which annoys me, but it’s the best I can do .
(and fun fact : I rarely use web clippers, but Evernote’s is more powerful and effective than its competitors like Notion or Anytype: before leaving, I used it to save over 400 pages neatly… and then migrated everything elsewhere )
I agree though; it would be awesome to customize the mobile app more. But if I’m remembering correctly, the mobile apps really being sold as companion apps, so I’m not getting my hopes up.
Oh I can relate to crazy web clipping habits
I used Diigo a looot :It’s web clipper is perfect even though the rest is not so good. The most annoying part I can recall being this sort of technical constraint by which you had to use their Diigo browser ….it sucked.
Anyways.
I’m not sure I understand what you mean by the simples tables you now have to do using Google Cal. Could your share a screenshot ?
