I’m just loving what this platform can do. I cannot wait for the AI integration to enhance what I already have.
How did you do that?
– Anytype doesn’t support bidirectional linking.
Of course, one could link Object A to Object B and then also manually link Object B back to A.
In some sense, one could call it a “bidirectional linking”. But honestly, that would make a lot of cumbersome and error prone work, and it would still not be the same as a real bidirectional linking.
Apart from that, I also wouldn’t call such a concept “relational linking”.
Maybe my understanding is limited, especially about the right terms, but I understand something different when I hear the term “relational”.
For example: I have a human Object. In that there are his data, for example his address.
Now I set up a new document: a letter.
What I want is, that the human’s address automatically flows into the address field of the letter.
– This is what I understand when the talk is about relational linking.
But, very(!) unfortunately, Anytype can’t do that.
30 years ago, my good old Atari computer was able to do that, with databases like Phoenix, or Maxxon Twist.
They have supported real relations. Anytype is still behind of that, from the viewpoint of a single user (no cloud, no syncing, no collaboration etc.).
So, I have no idea what you mean if you claim that you somehow have knitted a “bidirectional relational linking” in Anytype?
Sounds like magic.
I think I understood it, actually if you read it backwards it kind of makes sense innately: bidirectional relational links == Links that are Relatable Bidirectionally.
I also have managed to liberate myself from a very complexified and cumbersome workflow by benefiting from this. I was previously making use of Libre Office Base and Calc and then using Logseq, and using Syncthing to synchronize it all.. Now I just use Anytype because it can potentially handle so much due to its beautiful nature of “Types” and being able to use Queries and Collections to make databases and inline context of them into another type/object.
I think the user is defining his term well or at least I can relate and understand.
I don’t know what to think about the start post, to be honest.
The text is clean and structured. It looks good … or maybe too good – I suspect AI behind it.
Then some strange claims, like the “bidirectional relational links” (that Anytype does not support at all), but no solid information.
The new user behind the start post even uses the name of his concept as his user name, what looks suspicious for me.
Only thing I actually miss to flag the thread as spam is a link to an external website where you can … :-/
But I believe that I already smell that something like this will come soon. :-/
