WHAT DO YOU RECOMMEND
I would very much like a hotkey that lets me change the object type without reaching for the trackpad.
The trackpad slows me down.
HOW COULD IT BE DONE
Pressing, say, “alt t” anywhere in the object editor would bring up a search box for object types. I’d type part of the object type’s name, and when only one object type is consistent with the characters typed, I’d press enter and the object’s type would be changed.
Once the type is changed, the keyboard focus must return to where it was.
REAL WORLD USE CASES
I’d use this all the time, because my workflow consists of making a lot of little interconnected objects, and they all have types. I am currently summarizing important points from articles I’m reading and I want to quickly create an article, fill its fields and return to my summary note and link to the article. This is way too slow now, not because the app is slow to respond but rather because it is not keyboard-oriented enough.
Using the mouse breaks my flow and moves the keyboard focus away. Then I have to look for where the cursor is, or point the mouse cursor to the exact place I want the keyboard focus to be and click, and that is slow. These little interruptions add friction to thought.
RECOMMENDED ALTERNATIVES
Instead of a keyboard shortcut we can have a “/” command but I think this is important enough to deserve a shortcut, which is faster.
This app is called “anytype”, it’s not “evernote”. Setting types to be something other than note should be effortless
ADDITIONAL CONTEXT
relatedly, it would be great if I could have a new-object hotkey that not only creates a new object but also links to it from the currently-edited object.
