Grouping + Collections

What do you need help with?

HI,

I have been using Notion, and thought I’d take a look at AnyType, I’m facing a couple of issue, and I’m not sure if it’s me or it’s just not viable…

I want to have my direct reports in one spage driven by tags, I have created views, yet I can only see tasks, and I might want to have a series of objects tied against a direct report, i.e. tasks to follow up on, discussions had, or notes. Am I missing a trick here?

The second question is, as in Notion you can have a list view, but then have a vertical grouping to expand or collapse on that specific area, in my case ,maybe I want to just view direct report 1.

you can set the query source to a property
for example all objects have a modified date. so you could use this to get all objects.
then use the filter (like links to your report)

Regarding your second question, are you referring to this?

Yes, exactly this.

Brilliant thank you that works!

I’m still not clear on the distinction between Queries and Collections? when/what is the use case for different scenarios?

a collection is like a folder where you put things.

a query can call all objects from your space based on your criteria.

sometimes a collection is just handy depending on the use case (like you have a project and for that you have assets and you just want to put stuff in the assets collection without the overhead of thinking about what is is, how to adjust your query filter, how it’s tagged or whatever - so you have all your assets bundled in that collection)
