Graph pins - Ability to drag objects to a certain position and save that

WHAT DO YOU RECOMMEND

Pins in the graph view

HOW COULD IT BE DONE

Proposal 1: Ability to drag objects in a position, and fix them in that position.
Proposal 2: Something like an object type that serves only as a pin in the graph, it’s position will be changed only by the user, they won’t move with the rest of the objects.

REAL WORLD USE CASES

Can be used as building a hierarchy/categorisation of objects in the graph view, will give purpose to the ability to drag objects around, becoming more than a fun thing to do.

RECOMMENDED ALTERNATIVES

Dunno, maybe more graphs? Have smaller graphs by set, or by type, tag, etc?

ADDITIONAL CONTEXT

Dunno, and sry if I missed this feature while searching, I did my best.

The very nature of the web is about linking to places that matter. Deep linking (i.e., permalinks) is one way to create an information space with the equivalent of a wormhole. It’s a GPS-like feature that allows users to move freely through discrete links or by associations.

Pinned objects simply extended this idea by creating visual anchors. Information “travellers” are not unlike seafaring travellers who “drop anchor” occasionally.

In this case, describing a real-world use case for pinned objects is akin to describing how you would use a texting app. I remember actually doing that - explaining in 1998 what texting would offer. Everything and nothing was the best answer. The same applies to this - you’ll drop anchor to examine things nearby not knowing exactly what you’ll discover about that point in the GPS of information.
